<br />PAGE 5 <br /> <br />SECTION 5. RULES <br /> <br />5.0 That the rules and regulations of the National Board of Fire Underwriters <br />embodied in its "National Electric Code" published in 1971 and such subsequent <br />codes, amendments and supplements as said adopted as the rules and regulations <br />to govern and to be obBerved in all Electric wiring, and in all construction, <br />installation, operation, and maintenance of electric wiring, apparatus and fix- <br />tures except as otherwise specifically provided in this ordinance, and the same <br />hereby made a part of this ordinance as if copies herein in full. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />5.1 That the term "commercial building" will apply to all public buildings, <br />grain elevators, auditoriums, laundries, churches, theaters, moving picture hO\lses, <br />or any other public gathering place, machine shop, buildings used for the storage <br />of readily inflammable materials, filling statin~s, and lumber sheds located <br />within the City Limits of the City of San Marcos, Texas. <br /> <br />5.2 That all electrical wiring for light, heat, and/or power purposes here- <br />after to be installed in commercial buildings situated in the City of San Marcos, <br />Texas, shall in all cases be contained and encased in a rigid metallic conduit, <br />electrical metallic tubing, flexible metal conduit or approved P.V.C. conduit <br />and fitting. <br /> <br />5.3 All electrical wiring within the Number One Fire Zone shall be installed <br />in rigid metallic conduit, metal tubing, or flexible metal conduit. <br /> <br />5.4 That all conductors in commercial buildings installed for light, heat and <br />power shall be of such size that the voltage drop under load in the furtherst <br />outlet shall not exceed two per cent o~the voltage supplies in the service <br />entrance. No branch circuit or switch shall be installed with copper wire smaller <br />than #12 B&S Gauge and no #12 B&S Gauge branch circuit shall be protected by <br />fuse or breaker of greater capacity than twenty Amperes. No more than six out- <br />lets shall be installed on anyone circuit. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />5.5 An outside weatherproof main shall be installed for all commercial buildings. <br />The service wires for commercial buildings will be in'conduit. No service conduit <br />from point of service contact of buildings to meter connections shall be concealed. <br />Junctions or pull boxes shall not be installed in service conduits. Provided <br />further that service outlets shall be installed as directed by a representative <br />of the utility corporation providing such service, and only one point of contact <br />shall be made on any building. Such point of contact shall not be less than ten feet <br />above ground leve. <br /> <br />5.6 That all commercial cabinet and conduit installations shall be electric- <br />ally grounded with a ground wire in conduit. This wire (copper) will be not less than <br />number 6 B&S and connected to approved ground rod 1/2 inch in diameter and six feet <br />long. Said ground wire shall be attached to ground rod with approved clamps. If <br />the driving of a ground rod is not pessible grounding means will comply with NEe. Under <br />no circumstances shall the electric service be connected to the water service if the <br />water service is partly installed in plastic pipe or other than metal. <br /> <br />5.7 That all wiring for motors in any building within the City of San Marcos <br />where the motor is one-third horsepower or more shall in all cases be contained <br />and encased in metal conduit, tubing, or molding. Greenfield flexible conduit <br />not over thirty-six inches in length may be used to connect motor to terminal box. <br />All motors in excess of three horsepower will be started with appropriate starting <br />mechanism. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />5.8 That all electric signs shall have independent feed lines run in conduit <br />from the point of service and a single circuit shall not carry more than fifteen <br />Amperes. Application for sign permits shall contain plans and specifications, <br />arrangement of transformers, light ,circuits, and all protection devices for safe, <br />proper operation of signs. A plot plan shall accompany the application showing location <br />of the sign on the property. <br /> <br />5.9 That no main service for residential use shall be smaller than #6 B&S <br />Gauge wire (copper). SEUentrance cable may be used in lieu of conduit. No <br />service entrance from point of service contact of building to meter connection <br />shall be concealed. Junctions or pull boxes shall not be installed in the service <br />connection. Servi~e outlets shall be installed as directed, by a representative of <br />
