regular meeting, february 14, 1972

page five

I

H.Y. Price, jr., President of the San Marcos Telephone
Company, came before the Council "as the regulatory
body, under terms of the franchise", to give a report
on the state of the firm. He gave a presentation of the
electronic equipment presently being installed, and ex-
plained that delay in receiving materials had held up the
project and hampered efficiency of the entire system.
Mr. Price invited questions.
Davis Horton, President of Associated Students, SWTSU, was
spokesman for a group of students who had complained about
policies and service of the Telephone Company. Several
students aired complaints and asked questions. The forum
lasted one hour.

Joe Froh came before the Council to request closing of a
portion of Locust Street which intersects lots which he
owns in two blocks on Elm Street. The Mayor referred the
request to the Land Committee.

Mr. King moved that Mrs. D. Richard Bowles be appointed the
City's representative on the State library Coordinating
Committee. Dr. lauch seconded the motion, which passed
unanimously.

I

A request from Duke & Ayres Store Manager for two parking
spaces for a loading zone near the side entrance of the
store on Guadalupe Street was discussed. Present loading
zone in the alley beside City Hall is causing a serious
traffic hazard. since one-way traffic on Guadalupe was in-
itiated. Mr. DeLa Rosa voiced the opinion that the matter
should be studied before any action was taken, in order to
do what is best for the total community. Mr. Flores said
there was danger in setting a precedent, but the traffic
hazard made this case different. Dr. Tauch moved that the
City grant Duke & Ayres two parking spaces for a loading
zone by the side entrance to the store. Mr. Flores second-
ed the motion, which passed unanimously.

The City
Policy.
adoption

Manager gave Councilmen copies
He asked them to review it, to
at the February 28 meeting.

of a new Personnel
be considered for

The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.

///tvJJ C (2

Herbert A.
