<br />Jack Major, who was present when the Commission voted to
<br />ask the City to annex the property, explained that a group
<br />of people had come before the Commission to complain of the
<br />tenants, and requested that the City annex it so it would
<br />be subject to City ordinances and controls. Since it did
<br />constitute another "island" on the edge of the City Limits.
<br />the Commission agreed to recommend it to the Council.
<br />Mr. Etheredge said he approved of annexing the "islands"
<br />around the City, but would not approve of annexing property
<br />because of certain people living in the houses. The question I
<br />being called for. the following vote was recorded:

<br />The Mayor declared the ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted.

<br />David Ybarra, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of
<br />the City of San Marcos, came before the Council to give a
<br />progress report on the existing units, ~nd~he 100 new units
<br />under co~struction. Councilmen asked questi.ons ..about the
<br />housing units, and discussed various aspects of the management
<br />and maintenance. Mr. Smith complimented Mr.. Ybarra for the
<br />fine job he has ,done in the ten months he has been executive
<br />director. Mr. Yarbrough commented on the excellent condition
<br />of the grounds, especiall yat Allen Woods Homes.

<br />The Mayor said' the, names of j,l. "Buck~ Thompson and'Cel~stino
<br />Mendez, jr., had been proposed to fill the two vacancies on
<br />the 1971 Board of Equalization. Mr. Smith moved that Mr. l\homp-
<br />son and Mr. Mendez be appointed to the Board of Equalization.
<br />Mr. Floressec"onded. the.motion, which passed unanimously.

<br />The Council considered a request from Sa~l Flores for change
<br />of zoning from "D" (multi-family) to "M" (mised) at 804 Gravel
<br />(Purgatory). Mr. DeLaRosa moved-that a public h~arin9 beset
<br />on the Flores request for 6:00 p.m., June 14, 1971. Mr. Smith
<br />seconded the motion and onroll call, the following'v,ote was
<br />recorded:

<br />The Mayor read a letter from Dan Nevares, jr., protesting
<br />action of thePlannin9,&Zoning Commission~n his request for
<br />change ,of zoning. on the remainder, of Lot 6,. .in the A.B. Rogers

<br />denti.al).to "C" (col1lmer,cial). Nr. Flore.s moved that a public
<br />hearing on Mr. Nevares' ' request ~e set for 6:00p.m., June 14.
<br />Mr. Smith se<;onded the motion, which passed unanimously.
