Chambers Survey. Councilman King recalled that Mrs. Maggie Jones had been denied a change of zoning in that same block, and questioned the reasoning behind the Commission's now arbitrarily seeking to change it. Mr. DeLa Rosa moved that the Planning & Zoning Commission be requested to send a representative to Council meetings when planning and/or zoning matters have been forwarded for Council action. Mr. Etheredge seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Dr. T auch moved that Nick Lara's, request fOr rez oning be dehied, and that the matter bF- referred back to the Plann- ing & Zoning Commission for alfeasibility study on rezoning, for commercial use a larger area, including the Lara tract. Mr. King seconded the motion, and on roll call, the follow- lng vote was recorded: AYE: Emery, Yarbrough, King, Tauch NAY: DeLa Rosa, Etheredge, Flores Mr. King moved that the request from the Planning & Zoning Commission to rezone the tracts out of T.J. Chambers Survey from "R-1" to "D", as considered in the public hearing, be denied; and that the matter b& returned to the Commission, with a request that it be explained why the members thought the change should be made. Mrs. Emery seconded the motion, and on roll call, the following vote was recorded: I The Mayor declared the motion carried. The Mayor intl"oduced an ordinance authori,,~ng closing of an alley, Caption is as follows: AN ORDINANCE CLOSING AND ABANDONING AN ALLEY FROM HUTCHISON ~TREET TO HOPKINS STREET AND PARALLEL TO BOTH COMANCHE STREET AND FREDERICKSBURG STREET, SUCH ALLEY BEING LOCATED IN BLOCK 14, ORIG I NALADD- ITION TO THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS; AND DIRECT- ING THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, TO EXECUTE AND DELIVER A QUIT-CLAIM DEED TO THE HOLDERS OF PROPERTY ADJACENT TO SAID ALLEY I Councilman Flores reported that the Land Committee had conferred with representatives of Safeway Stores, Inc., who had requeS'ted abandonment of the alley,. They had agreed to dedicate right-of-way on Comanche Street in exchange for closing of the adjacent alley. They had
