I I I /<-.-2, 'i' PRO C LAM A T ION RESPECT FOR LAW liEEK .n!EREAS, in our nation, there are ever increasing incidents of crime and violence that endanger the citizenry and the very foun- dation of the society in which we live, and WHEREAS, it is apparent that the atmosphere permitting such condi- tions to exist is basic and principally attributable to apathy and a seeming unwillingness of the individual to become involved, and WHEREAS, it is felt that both concern and action must be stimulated if the present problems are to be solved and the future of our society assured, and WHEREAS, the mSl!'hers of the Optimist Club of San Marcos, Texas, as a vital part of their program of service, wish to further their efforts, designed to more effectively establish fair and equitable law enforcement and full obedience to the laws of the land, have set aside the seven days between May 1 and May 7, 1970, to be known as RESPECT FOR LAW l'l'EEK; and WHEREAS, the citizens of San Marcos have indicated their deep con- cern of the nation's crime problem and have reflected an approval of ~~e actions being taken by Optimist International, and lfliEREAS, I believe our citizens would wish to join with the Optimists, I, Hollis W. Smith as Mayor of the City of San Marcos, THEREFORE, proclaim May 1-7, 1970, as RESPECT FOR LAW WEEK, and IN WITNESS WHEROF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the city of San Marcos to be affixed. In this action, it is my sincere hope that every person will stop and consider his responsibilities of citizenship and apply his con- cern of the increasing problems of crime into a personal program of involvement and constructive action.
