regular meeting of the council, august 10, 1970, page three

1
;Joe '1

I

The City Secretary reported to the Council that Mr. J.L. Moore
had been to City Hall twice to request that "Elmore Drive" be
changed to "Lyndon B. Johnson Drive". Mrs. Worrell reported
she had told Mr. Moore that the Council had taken that action in
1967, resulting in Mrs. Moore's appearing before the Council to
strongly protest the change. The Council agreed by common con-
sent to request Mr. and Mrs. Moore to appear together at a Council
meeting, or to write a letter with both signatures, so that there
would be no misunderstanding about the change of name.

The Council considered a request from Browning Construction Co.
to close Fredericksburg Street from Lindsey to Woods during
erection of a university dormitory on Guadalupe and Woods Streets.
Mr. Flores moved that the City close the street as requested for
a period of six months, provided the contractor leave the street
in the same condition in which he found it. Mr. Yarbrough second-
ed the motion and on roll call, the following vote was recorded:

AYE: Contreras, Craddock, Flores, King, Smith,
Yarbrough, Zavesky

NAY:

None

The Mayor declared the motion carried.

Councilman King, who is serving as Chairman of the Beautifi-
cation Commitee for the Chamber 6f Commerce, enquired whether
the garbage ordinance designated placement of cans. He said
he had had several enquiries from people who recommended that
garbage cans be kept out of sight except during actual time of
collection. The City Secretary said she would check the ordinance.

I

Mr. Flores opened for discussion the need to open Barbara Drive
through for improvement of traffic flow. It was agreed by the
Council that the City Manager would be requested to make a cost
estimate of opening Barbara Drive through, and removing the
cul-de-sac.

on
He
to

on

I

~ Hollis
~LCl.

ontrera~7'/'~

~ ~'--

l-

Emmie Craddock
