<br />SPECIAL MEETING MARCH 30, 1955

<br />On this the 30th day of March, 1955, A.D., at 9:00 A. M., the City
<br />Council of the City of san Marcos, Texas, met in a special meeting at
<br />the City Hall with the following members present and participating:

<br />The High School City Council

<br />A quorum being present, Mayor Dietterich called the meeting to
<br />order and the following transpired:

<br />The High School City Council consisting of Delbert Ottmers, Mayor;
<br />H. C. Kyle, Alderman; David Burgum, Alderman; Norman Henk, Aldennan;
<br />Travis Tate, Alderman; Larry Waterbur~, Alderman; and Patricia Todd,
<br />City Secretary, met in a special meetlng before the regular City Council
<br />had its meeting. They discussed several problems that had been presented,
<br />and passed on them. The regular City Council then had its meeting,
<br />during which,the problems discussed by the High School students, were
<br />reviewed and acted on.

<br />It was stated that Charles Bass, Mrs. Allen and Frank Taylor's
<br />terms have expired on the Park Board. Alderman Beecroft made a motion
<br />that they be reappointed to sepwe on the Park.Board. Alderman
<br />Hill seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously
<br />in favor of the motion.

<br />Mrs. J. A. Zimmerman's parking problem was presented to the Council.
<br />She had stated that, when the Baptist Church has a revival or a meeting,
<br />her tenants at 319 North Street have no place to park. She had requested
<br />that a Space be reserved for her tenants. After a discussion, Alderman
<br />Beecroft made a motion 'that Mrs. Zimmerman's request be refused for the
<br />reason that, if the Council made an exception for one citizen, they
<br />would be requtred to maki the same exception for others. Alderman
<br />De Viney seconded the motion. A vote was taken which res~lted unanimously
<br />in favor of the motion.

<br />Mr. Ba~bee stated that the City owns the triangle lot located between
<br />Comacho St., Churchill Street, and Roosevelt St. He asked the Council
<br />if they thought the City should sell this lot. He stated that the
<br />lot has been' used for storing pipe and equipment owned by the City, but
<br />that recently someone has been carrying things off and breaking the pipe.
<br />He stated that the lot was of no further use to the City as far as he
<br />could determine. Someone suggested that the lot be used as a playground
<br />for the children living near by. After a discussion on this matter,
<br />Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the lot not be sold, and that the
<br />lot be cleared off and used as a playground. Alderman Xllen seconded
<br />the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the
<br />motion.'

<br />The Council discussed the remodeling of the Chamber of Commerce
<br />office. Mayor Dietterich stated that in the near future' the City will
<br />be required to build two new fire stations. He stated that, if and
<br />when these stations are built,there may not be a need for the large
<br />hall, which is now used as a meeting place by the Fire Department.
<br />Alderman De Viney stated that he thought the Fire Department was required
<br />to have several of their meetings in the fire station. It was suggested
<br />that the lobby and the Chamber of Commerce office be improved now, and
<br />that if the hall is needed, it can be improved at a later date.
<br />fue Council requested that Mr. Barbee make inquiries to determine whether
<br />or not the auditorium should be remOdeled.

<br />The Council discussed the date to be set for Clean Up Week.
<br />Alderman Beecroft ma~e a motion that the week of April 11 thru 16 be
<br />designated as Olean Up Week, with the pick up days being April 11,12, & 13.
<br />Alderman Hill seconded the motion. A vote was takan which resulted I
<br />unanimously in'favor of the motion. The City Secretary was instructed
<br />to publish the Clean Up Week Proclamation in the San Marcos Record. ",

<br />There was a discussion on Lot 9 of the J. P. Ellis Sub-Division.
<br />The lot is 50 x 120 ft. Mr. Barbee stated that by buying this lot,
<br />Knox Street could oe opened into Alex Street. t Knom 3tre~t is now
<br />a dead-end street. He also stated that the owner wants $550.00 for
<br />the lot. Alderman De Viney made a motion that Mr. Barbee be instructed
