3

Alderman Hill reported that he had received a complaint rrom
Oscar Payne concerning the sale of dirt by the city. He had stated
that the City was going into competition with the local dirt salesmen
by selling the dirt off the streets at a lower price. Mr. Barbee
stated that last year the City sold approximately $1,500.00 of dirt.
Alderman Hill stated that the City had to dispose of the dirt in
some way and that usually it has to be disposed of right away.
He said he was of the opinion that the City would be hurting the
dirt sellers worse by giving the dirt away than by selling it. He
did not feel that the small amounts of dirt sold by the City were
hurting the business men. "The Council unanimously agreed to
give Mr. Barbee and Mr. Mc1iilliams the authori ty to set the price
for the dirt.

I

Mr. Barbee reported that while McWilliama had been building
the bridge on North Austin street, Mr. Jim L. Moore had offered
some flat rocks to McWilliams to be used for the head walls on
the bridge. Aldennan Allen made a motion that a letter be written
to Mr. Moore thanking him for his assistance. Alderman Hill
seconded the motion. A vote was taken Which resulted unanimously
in favor of the motion.

Willie Posey told the Council that the City is in need of one
more pump at the sewer plant to keep the sewerage circulated. He
stated that the pump would cost apprOXimately $500.00. The Council
unanimously gave Mr. Barbee the authority to purchase the pump as
soon as possible.

Mr. Barbee made a~ort report on tax valuations.

There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was
adjourned at 11:45 A.M.

The foregoing and above minutes is a true and correct record of
all matters transpiring at the special meeti~~eld n April 6, 1955.

M~ .cc.

Frank E.

/

I

I

~- -
