<br />REGULAR &illETING APRIL 20, 1955 <br /> <br />.5 <br /> <br />On this, the 20th day of April, 1955, A. D., at 2:00 P. M., the <br />City Council of the City of San Marcos me~, in a,regular meeting at the <br />City Hall with the following members presunt &~d participating: <br /> <br />Frank .E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />Harold G. Smith, Alderman <br />Frank D. Hill, Jr., Alderman <br />Coy De Viney, Alderman <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br /> <br />Absent: Calvin M. Allen, Alderman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />others present: <br /> <br />Terry Jacks Ernest Morgan <br />L. Martin, United Gas Corp. <br />Dr. Wm. L. Moore <br /> <br />W. G.Barbee A. Y. McWilliams <br />Hudson Bales Colonel Hale <br />Walter Buckner Ann Ziemke <br /> <br />A quorum being present, Mayor Dietterich called the meeting to order <br />and the following transpired: <br /> <br />An ordinance authorizing the issuance of the $31,000.00 Waterworks <br />and Sewer Improvement Refunding Bonds was ,presented to the Council for <br />adoption. Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the ordinance be. <br />adopted. Alderman 'Smith seconded the motion., A vote was taken which <br />resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. '!he ordinance follows <br />these minutes and is a part hereof. <br /> <br />An ordinance authorizing'the issuance of the $40,000.00 street <br />Improvement Warx'ants ViaS pres('lnted to the Council for adoption, <br />Aldernlan Smith made a motion that the ordinance be adopted. Alderman <br />Beecroft seconded the motion. AV9te, was taken which resulted unanimously <br />in favor of the motion. The ordinance follows these minutes and is <br />a part hereof. - <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee stated that it will be necessary for the City to borrow <br />approximately,$60,ooo.OO by issuing expense warrants this year to be <br />used for general expenses. He suggested that expense time warrants <br />be issued for_this money and that they be sold to the state Bank 3: <br />Trust Co. He said that'the warrants would be nUmbered 1 throug.'fJ. 60 <br />in the amount of $1,000.00 each. After a discussion, Alderman Smith <br />made a motion that Mr. Barbee oeauthorized to issue expense time warrants <br />in the total amount of' $60,000.00 and that the warrants be sold to the <br />State Bank & Trust Co., San Marcos, Texas. Alderman Beecroft seconded <br />the motion~ A vote waS taken \wicll resulted unanimously in favor of <br />the motion. <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee also requested that he be authorized to sell the. first <br />15 warrants amounting to ~15,ooo.oO, dUring'the month of April. <br />He stated that, all the money is'needed,he will request authority <br />frain the C01llll1cil to issue whatever amount is needed. Alderman De Viney <br />made a motion that Mr. Barbee be authorized to sell the first 15 warrants <br />to the State Bank 9c Trust Co. during the month of April. Alderman Hill <br />seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted un&~imously in favor <br />of the motion. <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee asked the Council if April 21, 1955, was to be a holiday. <br />After a discussion, the Council unanimously agreed that April 21st would <br />be considered a holiday this year and the City Hall would be' closed. <br /> <br />It was stated that through an error Buck Payne's name was not inclUded <br />on the list of members to be reappointed to the Park Board at the last <br />meeting. Jj.lderJ11.an Srni th made a' motion that Buck pa:yne be reap-rointed <br />to serve on the Park Board. Alderman Hill seconded the motion. A vote <br />was t~~en whioh re~ulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />Hudson Bales met with the Council to discuss two new fire stations. <br />Mayor Dietterich stated that the Cdtirtcil wanted to get the approximate <br />cost of two fire stations v~th' living quarters included and the best <br />locations for same. Mr. Bales ~old the Council that he had been <br />making inquiries and had found that usuall'Y the bungalow duplex apartment <br />type is' used. He~ s tated "that the fire s tat ions would cost approximately <br />:);28,000.00 to $30,000.00. This includesthebu:Llding and the equipment~ <br />There was also a discussion on the best locations for new fire stations. <br />It was stated that one good location I'iould probably be near the schools <br />anq academy. It was reported that the Academy had asked that the City <br />furni,sh a water line to the Academy property line for fire protection. <br />
