<br />REGULAR IBETING <br />MilT 4, 1955 <br /> <br />On this, the 4th day of May, A. D., 1955, at 2:00 P. M., the City <br />Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in regular session at the <br />City Hall, with the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />Calvin M. Allen, Alderman <br />Harold G. Smith, Alderman <br />Coy De Viney, Alderman <br />Frank D. Hill, Jr., Alderman <br />S. rl. Beecroft, Alderman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Others present were: <br /> <br />Walter Buckner <br />Louis Haynes <br />~'1n Ziemke <br /> <br />Jack Perkins <br />Vi. G. Barbee <br /> <br />John Stokes Frank T. Drought <br />Mrs. Jim Walls Judge Decker <br /> <br />A quorum being present, Mayor Dietterich called the meeting to order <br />and the following transpired: <br /> <br />Jack Ferkins and Jolli'1 Stokes presented a plat of the Oak Heights <br />SUb-Division, out of the T. J. Ghambers and asked that the Council <br />approve said plat. The Council studied the plat, discussing the streets, <br />utilities,'etc. Mr. Perkins stated that this Sub-Division will be out- <br />side the City Limi ts, however, they plan 'to furoi sh water and sewer <br />to the lots which will met City specifications. They also stated that <br />in the future they plan to subdivide the land below this sub-division <br />and that the streets will be opened,on through. Mr. Stokes stated that <br />he would be willing to make a contract with the City, in order to assure <br />the Council that he and JacM Perkins plan to sub-divide the res t of the <br />land in the future. Alderman Smith made a motion that the plat of the <br />Oak Heights Sub-Division out of T. J. Chambers be approved subject to <br />compliance of the Sub-Division Ordinance in every respect, and ~~at <br />the City make acontract with John Stokes concerning this sub-division and <br />further sub-divisions. Alderma.YJ. Beecroft seconded the motion. A vote <br />was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mr. Walter &lckner met with the Council to discuss a Planning and <br />Zoning ,Commission. Mayor Dietterich stated that it will be necessary <br />for the City to have ~,Zorlirlg_}3oard to regulate the building in San Marcos. <br />Mr. Buckner has been vlOrking on'-the' forming of such a board. He stated <br />that a letter has been received from Tom Oliver accepting the invitation <br />to work on this Board. Mr. Buckner reported that he had contacted the <br />League of Texas Municipalities and it has agreed to send two men, <br />Mr. McAdam and Mr. Crutchfield, to San Marcos on the 17th of May to work <br />on this project. They will bring copies of ordinances from several <br />cities near-by concerning this problem. The Mayor stated that we may <br />find information that will be of help to us out of these ordinances. <br />It was stated that an engineer may be needed to work out some of the plans. <br />Mayor Dietterich sUGgested that Frank 'r. Drought be requested to work on <br />this plan. Mr. Buckner stated that a temporary comnission should be <br />appointed, in order that public meetings can be held and the first plans <br />can me made. He said that after the plans have been made a permanent <br />board should be appointed and the ordinance should be passed. <br />S. R. Beecroft was auoointed to work with the commission. Alderman Smith <br />made a motion that a" Planning and Zoning Commission be appointed consist- <br />ing of approximately 50 members. Out of this CommiIllion, the final Board <br />will be chosen. He aTso moved that S. RI. Beecroft be appointed to re~re- <br />sent the Council in working with the Comnission. Alderman Hill seconded <br />the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the <br />motion. Mr. Buckner suggested that a letter be sent to each person to <br />be on the Commission, inviting them to the meeting which will be held <br />on May l7, 1955. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Plan on two fire stations, which had been prepared by Frank Drought, <br />were presented to the Council. There was a discussion on approximately <br />how much the fire stations and equipment would cost. No action was taken. <br /> <br />Mr. Haynes, Fire Chief, reported that he needed another paid fireman. <br />After a discussion, Aldenaan deecroft made a motion that approval be <br />given for another paid fireman to start June 1. Aldeman Hill seconded <br />the motion; A vote was taken which resulted unanimous Iv in favor of <br />the motion. The Council stated that the fireman would be paid a starting <br />salary of $200.00 per month. <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee read a letter from Missouri Pacific Lines concerning the <br />underpass ~n the park.
