<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />REGULAR MEETING November 23, 1955 <br /> <br />99 <br /> <br />On this, the 23rd day of November, 1955, at 2:00p.m, the City <br />Council of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in a regular meeting at <br />the Ci ty Hall in San Marcos, wi t..'l the following members present and <br />participating: <br /> <br />Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor <br />Frank D. Hill, Jr., Alderman <br />Hal' old G. Emi th, Alderman <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />Coy De Viney, Alderman <br />calvin M. Allen, Alderman <br /> <br />'others present: W. G. Barbee Mrs. C. V. carson <br />Dr. victor Bowers Herbert Holcombe Joe "fils on Huds on Bales <br />Ike Wranitzky Ann Ziemke <br /> <br />A quorum being present, Mayor Dietterich called the meeting to <br />order, and the following transpired: <br /> <br />Mayor Dietterich thanked the observers from the service Clubs <br />for taking an interest in attending the meetings of the CmIncil. <br />He stated that it was his opinion that this program would add to <br />the efficiency of the city government in future years. He told the <br />observers that they were citizens of the community and that they <br />have every right to challenge any matter being discussed over the <br />Council table. <br /> <br />Frank T. Drought, Engineer from san Antonio, Texas, presented <br />preliminary drawings of the two new fire stations which are to be <br />const~~cted in san Marcos. He stated that one station will face <br />East and the other faces West. He reviewed the plans with the <br />COlmcil, explaining each detail. Mr. Drou5ht stated that the <br />buildings will not look like fire stations, but rather like an odd <br />type of residence. Mr. Drought told the council that, by rushing <br />the work in the next week, bids could be accepted on December 21st. <br />AlCierman Hill made a motion that the preliminary plans of the two <br />fire stations be approved. Alderman Smith seconded the motion. A <br />vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br />Alderman Smith then made a motion that bids be opened on December 21st <br />on the two fire stations and that the notice to bidders be published <br />on December 2nd and December 9th. Aldenn an Hill seconded the motion. <br />A vote was taken which resulted unanimry~sly in favor of the motion. <br />Toe ~eS01'\1ion apvro'tiR\'\ Notice to Bidders & the Notice follows these <br />mlnu Miy~P DI~t~er!~n st~t~a'that there has been some discussion on <br />getting a satisfactory street to the recreation building as soon as <br />possible, as the building will be completed in the near future. <br />He stated that it will be necessary to obtain permission from Southwest <br />Texas State Teachers College to go through their property. Mayor <br />Dietterich stated that, if the college would grant permission to use <br />their property, the city would build the street and maintain it. <br />Mr. Barbee reported that he and Mr. Mciiilliams, street Superintendent, <br />have been studying the park in order to determine how much parking <br />area will be needed and where it should be located. He explained to <br />the Council that according to the location that has been chosen for <br />the street, it will be necessary to obtain permission from the college <br />to move the net fence along its property back approximately 10 feet. <br />in order to get a radius. He stated that, if the state would not <br />wish to grant the property to the city, it would be satisfactory to <br />give the city permission to use the property. <br /> <br />Mr. Bnrbee stated that it will be necessary to pass an ordinance <br />approving the payment of ;;12,000.00 claims on the street warrant Fund. <br />The ORDINANCE AUDITING 1\ND ALL01,'!ING CL1\IMS FOR INDEBTEDNESS INCURRED <br />IN CONSTRUCTING STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS; <br />AUTHORIZING THE DELIVERY OF CITY OF SAN JrLl\.RCOS STREET IMPROVEMENT <br />WARR1\NTS, SERIES OF 1955, TO EVIDENCE SAID INDEBTEDNESS; AND DECLARING <br />AN E~ffiRGENCY. was presented to the Council for adJption. Alderman <br />Smith made a motion that the ordinance be adopted. Alderman De Viney <br />seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in <br />favor of the motion. The ordinance follows these minutes and is a <br />part he re of . <br /> <br />Mr. Barbee told the Council that he had contacted Gibson & Gibson <br />in Austin and they had stated that it would be satis factor,{ to make <br />a note to the bank for $3,,00.00 for the purchase of lots to be used <br />as sites for the two fire stations. <br />
