,.

~-~

JIII'-

II

San Marcos, Texas
March 28, 1956

Honorable Frank E. Dietterich, Mayor
and Members of the City Council
City of San Marcos
San Marcos, Texas

Gentlemen:

I

I previously announced my intention to seek
a place on the City Cotincil of the City of San Marcos.
At the time I did this, I did not know there was any
question as to whether I could serve on the City Council,
in addition to retaining my employment with the State of
Texas as a Professor in Southwest Texas State Teachers
College.

Since announcing for the above office, I have
learned there is some question about the legality of my
being on the City Council, and, at the same time, serving
as a Professor at the COllege. I further understand the
law is not well settled on this matter, and that recent
opinions of the Attorney General of the State of Texas have
been conflicting on the point. While I would like very much
to serve on the City Council it is my belief that, in the
circumstances, the best interest of the City, as well as my
own best interest, would be served if I withdraw from the
race for City Council until this matter is finally settled.

In view of the foregoing, I will appreciate it
very much if you will delete my name from the ba llot to be
used in the City. election on April 3, 1956.

Sincerely yours

I

&4~

Cecil Hahn

"---

~
