<br />-"-1 <br /> <br />VI. C. Allbright, Chief of Police, met with thE' Counei 1 to request that a new <br />Police Car be purchased. He stated that the old Chevrolet has 58,000. milE's on it and <br />is in very bad condition. He suggested that it be traded in on a new car. He stated <br />that each year the Ford Motor Company gives two fords to the State Highway Department <br />for trial. After a certain time, these cars are sold only to a Sheriff's Department <br />or Police Department. He stated that the car available is a four door sedan with a <br />Mercury engine which is specially built for police work, and it has 7,000. miles on <br />it. He stated that this car could be purchased for $2,430.00 with a trade in for the <br />Chevrolet in the amount of $868.00 leaving a balance of $1,562.00. It was mentioned <br />by a member of the Council that the City would not be required to accept bids on an <br />amount less than $2,500.00. The Council asked Mr. Barbee if it was possible to buy <br />this car on u rental lease contract. Mr. Barbee stated that it was possible to do so. <br />Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the Council approve the purchase of this car <br />on a rental lease plan and that Mr. Barbee be instructed to handle the payment plans. <br />Alderman De Viney seconded the motion.
