HIGq'CJAY 621 LYING <br />~ITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF SAN K~RCOS, HAYS COUNTY, <br />THROcTGH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CERTAIN ~gXIMUM SPEEDS FOR PARTICJJLAR <br />SECTIONS OF SAID HIGfFIAYS; DEFINING WHAT ACTS 'NILL BE UNLAWFUL <br />AND FIXING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION OF THE PROVISIONS OF ~qIS ORDINANCE; <br />AND REPEALING ALL OnDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS, AND PARTS THEREOF, <br />IN CONFUl:CT HER :"WITH. was presented to the Council for adoptiJon. <br />t~. parbee stated that the State Highway Department has suggested that <br />the speeds in this ordinance be used. Alderman Korff made a motion <br />that the ordinance be approved and adopted. Alderman Davis seconded <br />the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of <br />the motion. The ordinance follows these minutes and is a part hereof. <br /> <br />Mr. J. \7ill Campbell ;'1let with the Council to state that there <br />is one matter that is still uncertain. He asked the Council if, v/hen <br />dealing with a party oimine; land on the highway, a property ovmer <br />eooperates in all ways,without threats of condemnation, would it be <br />possible for him to use as a trading point, the fact that the property <br />owner may occupy the property the last four months rent free. <br />After a discussion, the Council stGted that they were in favor of <br />Mr. campbell's suggestion. Mr. Campbell then inquired m~ether he <br />should try to definitely trade immediately or wait two weeks until <br />the money would possibly be available. The Council was of the opinion <br />that Mr. camp'C)ell Should wait at least two weeks before trying to <br />trade. <br /> <br />There was a d~ussion on the fact,that Mr. Will Joiner is getting <br />on in age and that he cannot handle a great amount of work due to that <br />fact. Mr. Barbee stated that it might be well for him to retire due <br />to the danger involved in his working around high tension wires, etc. <br />at the sewer plant. Mr. 3arbee stated that he can now draw full <br />benefits on Social security. The C~lncil was unanimously in agreement <br />that it would be best for Mr. Joiner to retire as soon as possible, <br />and Mr. Barbee was authorized to talk wi th Mr. & Mrs. Joiner cmcerning <br />the possibility of payi.ng some amount for approximately 6 months as <br />severance pay from the City. <br /> <br />The fact that the following Pwk Board members.' terms have <br />expired was brought to the attention of the council; <br />Barton Gill <br />R. R. Tuahek <br />Edra Pennini3ton <br />Herbert Nix <br />Bob van Gundy <br />Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the above members be re-appointed <br />to serve on the park Board for a term of two years. Alderman <br />Allen seconded the motion. A vote was taken vbich resulted unanimously <br />in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE NTDITING AND ALLm'IING CLAD!S FOR INDEBTEDNESS <br />INCTJRRED IN CONSTRUCTING FIRE STATIONS IN THE CITY OF SA'1 M.I\~COS, TEXAS, <br />INCU'DING ARCqITECT'S FEE IN CONNECTION THESEWITH, A'ITHORIZING THE <br />DELIVERY OF CITY OF SA~ MARCOS PIPE ST^TION AND ~0TJIPMENT WARRANTS, <br />TO EVIDENCE SAID INDEBTEDNESS; AlID DECLARING AN EMERGEnCY, was presented <br />to the Council for adoption. Alderman Beecroft made a motion that the <br />above ordinance be adopted. Alderman Davis seconded the motion. A <br />vote was taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br />The ordinance follows these minutes and is a part hereof. <br /> <br />There was a discussion on W. G. Barbee'S resignation of this month. <br />The Council discussed several ways of replacing Mr. Barbee but no action <br />was taken. <br /> <br />There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was <br />adjourned at 4:30 p.m. <br /> <br />The foregoing and above minutes is a true a <br />of all matters transpiring at <br />May 23, ih956. <br /> <br />record <br /> <br />
