A vote was taken which resulted unanimously in
favor of the motion.

Next business was the approving of the tax rate for the tax year 1956, at $2.10. I
Mr. Davis made a motion that the tax rate be set at $2.10 per hundred for the t~x
year 1956. Mr. Korff seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimously
in favor of the motion~

AN ORDINANCE AUDITING AND ALLOWING CLAIMS FOR INDEBTEDNESS INCURRED IN CONSTRUCTING
FIRE STATIONS, INCLUDING ARCHITECT'S FEE IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, AND PURCHASING
FIRE EQUIPMENT FOR SAID CITY; AUTHOHIZING THE DELIVERY Of CITY OF SAN MARCOS FIRE
STATION AND EQUIPMENT WARRANTS TO EVIDENCE SAID INDEBTEDNESS; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY, was presented to the Council for approval and adoption. Alderman Hillburn
made a motion that the ordinance be adopted with the addition of an added clause
to hoM a cashier's check in the amount of $796.94 payable to Horace Howard until
everything is finished satisfaotorily at the Fire Stations.

Alderman Korff seconded the motion. A vote was taken which resulted unanimeusly
in favor of the motion.

The next business was the opening of bids on sewer pipe for Millview Addition.
After reviewing the bids the Aldermen were in mutual agreement to accept the bid by
W. S. Dickey Clay Mfg. Company.

The subject of repairing the City jail was next on the Agenda. Alderman Hillburn
suggested that the Council meet in a body and go to tha next County Co~~issioners
Court and see what they say about the City using the county jail. After a short
discussion it was decided that Mr. Barbee was to go ahead and rebuild the city jail,
as it could be used as a storage room, if not for a jail.

I

Mr. Emmett Colvin came before the Council with a sketch or the City Air Field
on Highway 81. He stated that the Civil Air Patrol has two aircrafts, and that
runway number 2 is too short for them, and most visiting aircraft. His suggestion
was that the City gravel 50 feet of the width and 1500 feet in length of runnway # 1.
This would take 2000 yards of gravel. Yarrington '8 Gravel Pit will sell same at 8~
per square yard, in the pit. The "top" of the pit would have to be taken off by a
dozier at the cost of approximately $100.00 per day and would take about three days.
It was figured finally that it would cost approximately $1,500.00 to fix a 50x1500 foot
runway, which was definitely needed at the Air Field. Mr. Hillburn suggested that
Mr. Barbee be instructed to have this above work done at times when the street
department had nothing else to do, and by mutual agreement, there being no objections,
this was done.

There being no furthe~ business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 4115 P. M.

The foregoing and above minutes is a true and correct record of all matters
transpiring at the regular meeting held on October 24, 1956.

/.
C~~-_ (, ',~ '~" ; / 1\ .'.' ~,c~
Calvin M.
