<br />.#3 <br />57 <br /> <br />HECiUUIH )\\EETING JUNE 25, 1957 <br /> <br />On this, the 25th day of J.une, 1957, at 2:00 P. M. the city GauncE of the <br />City of San Marcos, Texas met in a regular meeting at the City Hall in San Marcos" <br />with the following members present and participating; <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />C. M. Allen, Mayor <br />S. R. Beecroft, Alderman <br />D.,D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />Herman Korff, Alderman <br />W. M. Davis, Alderman <br />H. ','1. Steakley, Alderman <br /> <br />A quorum being present, the Mayor called the meeting to order, and the <br />following transpired; <br /> <br />First cuslness to come before the Council was -to decide just what action to <br />take in furnishing a car for Mr. 3. n. Fuller, City Manacjer. The question before <br />the Council was whether to buy a new police car or a new car for Mr. Fuller. After <br />a short discussion it was decided to trade the 1955 Plymouth in on a new car for <br />Mr. fuller. Mr. Beecroft then made a motion to get bids on a six or eight cylinder <br />4 door standard sedan with a heater and to transfer the radio equipment from the <br />Plymouth to the new car. The 1955 Plymouth to be a "rade in. The Police Depart:nent <br />will then use the Chief I s car and the 1954 Ford. hIr. Steakley seconded -the motion. <br />A vote was taken which resulted as follows: <br /> <br />Beecroft yes <br />Hillburn yes <br />Korff yes <br />Steakley yes <br />Davis no <br />The motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Next business was the question of whether to purchase a small strip of land <br />from Gran ::::Uett and in return Mr. Cliett is to receive credit of $75.00 on his <br />delinquent water bill. It was mutually agreed to wait before, w.aking a decision. <br /> <br />Mr. John Stokes had previously paid::; 110.00 under protest to the City for <br />building permit fees on S.VI.T.':i.T.College work. Mr. Stokes had written a letter <br />re-affirming his belief that the City cannot legally collect such fees, and Was <br />asking for a refund. Mr. Hillburn made a motion to have Mr. Ernest Morgan, CUy <br />Attorney, write Mr. Stokes and affirm that the City can legally collect building <br />permit fees an such building. Mr. Steakley seconded the motion. A vote was <br />taken which resulted unanimously in favor of the motion. <br /> <br />-fhe subdivision ordinance was then brought berore the Council for final <br />approval. Mr. Korff made a motion that the subdivision ordinance be approved <br />as '-"ri Hen. Mr. Pavis seconded ths motion. Upon being put to a vote the motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Next on the agenda was the passing of an ordinance regulating the speed of <br />traffic upon that portion of State Highway 123 lying within the corporate limits <br />of the City of San Marcos. Mr. Hillburn made a motion to approve the passing <br />of the following ordinance: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AN OHDINANCE REGULATING THE SPEED OF THAFFIC UPON THAT POnnON <br />OF STATE HIGf.liIAY 123 lYING WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, HAYS COUNTY, THROUGH THE ESTABLl5H11iENT OF <br />CERTAIN MAXIMUM SPEEDS FOn PARTICULAR SECTIONS OF SAW HIGHWAYS; <br />DEFINING WHAT ACTS HILL BE UNLAWFUL AND FIXING PENAUIES I'm <br />VIOLATION OF THE PHOVISIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE; AND REPEALING ALL <br />ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS, AND PM,TS THEREOF, IN CONFLICT <br />HEHEW ITH. <br /> <br />Ml'. Davis seconded the motion. A vote taken resulted unanimously in favor <br />of the motion. The ordinance follows these minutes and beco:nes a part hereof. <br /> <br />Mr. Steakley had studied an ordinance regulating obstructions on corner <br />property. After some discussion it was decided to have Mr. Morgan draw up an <br />ordinance with the changes made from the ordinance drawn up by Mr. Steakley. <br />letr. Beecroft then made a motion to adopt the ordinance effective immediately as <br />drawn up by Mr. Steakley. Mr. Korff seconded the motion. Upon being put to a <br />vote the motion carried. <br />
