The City Manager requested that if there were no objections
from the members of the Council, that bids could be let on the pipe and
fittings so that the water lines promised in the annexed areas could be
installed as promptly as possible, which received the unanimous approval
of the Council.

l-"
Z
()
"~'.~
'-">
=

}

- -- ,)

The City Manager at this time informed the Council that it would
be necessary to notify the State Highway Department what action would be
taken on relocating the waterline on the Old Hunter Road. It was unanimous-
ly approved by the COuncil that the City Manager be authorized to contact
the City Attorney regarding the legal steps to be taken in this matter.

I

The Council was informed by the City Manager that materials and
labor to paint the library building was approximately $150.00 to $170.00.
The Council instructed the City Manager to obtain three (3) bids on this
work.

The Council was informed of the existance of an old house on
Harvey Street which is in a very poor state of repairs and has been con-
demned by the Fire Marshall as a hazard, however, very little has been
done to remove the hazard or to improve the existing condition. A number
of years taxes are due on the property and the City Manager requested the
Council to approve turning this property over to the City Attorney for
sale for these delinquent taxes, thus possibly disposing of it to 80me
.interested party thereby removing the hazard and improving the adjoining
neighborhood. Motion was made by Alderman Hillburn and seconded by
Alderman Korff to authorize the City Manager to contact the City Attorney
to .collect the back taxes due on the property.

The City Manager stated that due to traffic conditions, he felt
it necessary to install a "Yield" sign on N. Austin Street at its inter-
section with Chestnut Street, which was put into the form of a motion by
Alderman Korff and seconded by Alderman Steakley and receiving a unani-
mous vote.

The city Manager at this time stated that an investigation
showed that we are still not able to keep up with the volume of flow at the
sewerage lift station and it deemed it necessary to prepare the project
and advertise for bids. Additional right-of-way will have to be acquired
for the discharge line from the new site of the lift station to the road
to the Air Base, and the City Manager recommended that the Mayor appoint
such members of the Council, as he thinks best, to assist in getting this
muchly needed right-of-way. After the lift station is moved. it will be
necessary that certain improvements be made to the disposal plant in
order to handle the additional load which will be placed on it. The City
Manager stated that the disposal plant presently has a rated capacity of
1.3 million gallons per day and during December there was a high volume
day of 1,403,000 gallons passing through the plant. or an average for
the month of 1,165,500 gallons per day, and monthly average of November
was 1,276,200 gallons. which would indicate that it will be necessary to
enlarge the plant to accommodate the additional load, and he felt it
would be necessary to employ a consulting engineer to assist with the
modification of the disposal plant. The City Manager stated that if
another engineer is employed, it will in no manner effect Mr. Dickson,
who designed the present lift station. The City Manager suggested con-
tacting Black and Veatch, Consulting Engineers, a very reputable firm,
and asking their representative to meet with the Council.

At this time, Alderman Beecroft suggested that the City Manager
be authorized to write to Black and Veatch and see how soon they could
send a representative to meet with the Council for consultation on this
matter, which was unanimously approved.

I

I

There being no further business to discuss, the Council, on
motion, adjourned at 4110 P. M.

:: ";' ~~"-:;':< ..- ~> )

Alderman B. D. Hillburn

Alderman W. M. Davis

Alderman Herman Korff

Alderman H. W.
