<br />REGUlAR MEETING OF CITY COUNCIL HElD ON JULY 8. 1958 <br /> <br />tal <br />095 <br /> <br />On this, the 8th day of JUly, 1958, at 2 o'clock P. M., the Board of <br />Aldermen of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in regular session at the City <br />Hall. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Pro-Tern who presided in <br />the absence of Mayor C. M. Allen. <br /> <br />The following members were present: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Mayor Pro-Tern, S. R. Beecroft, Presiding <br />Alderman W. M. Davis <br />Alderman B. D. Hillburn <br />Alderman Herman Korff <br />Alderman H. W. Steakley <br /> <br />Also present I <br /> <br />City M~nager, B. R. Fuller <br />City Secretary, Carlyn Tatch <br />Mrs. Fred Richan <br /> <br />The first order of business was a report by the City Manager on the <br />progress made in lighting a playground for the residents in the vicinity of <br />the colored school at Porter and Endicott Streets. The City Manager reported <br />that the School Board had indicated, by letter, that they could not partici- <br />pate financially in the project, however, they were in favor of it and would <br />permit the City using school property. It was the unanimous decision of the <br />Council that the City should proceed with dispatch in completing the project <br />as it was needed by the citizens in the area who had indicated their desire <br />that the City complete the facility. <br /> <br />A verbal request to the City Manager by Mr. James R. walker, 609 <br />Conway Drive, that the City take immediate steps to protect the property in <br />the conway and Greendale Additions from flooding when the Blanco River over- <br />flows which was referred to the City Manager for a report and recommendation <br />by August. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The recommendation of the City Manager that the City lease, for a <br />period of one (1) year with automatic renewal, a parking lot on a portion of <br />Lot 3, Block 20, Original Town Site, was approved on motion of Alderman Hillburn, <br />seconded by Alderman Davis and passed unanimously. The monthly rental charges <br />for parking were set at: <br /> <br />Single Space on Alley <br />Single Space inside the area <br />Two or more spaces any location-per space <br /> <br />$4.00 <br />$3.50 <br />$3.00 <br /> <br />The Council deferred action on purchasing space in the "Heart-O-Texas" <br />magazine which is to be published by EcholS, Inc. <br /> <br />A standard street plan was presented for the Councils' consideration. <br />It was the deciSion of the Council that this plan be approved and the City <br />Manager was instructed to have the proper ordinance drafted for adoption by the <br />Council at a later meeting. <br /> <br />On motion made by Alderman Hillburn, seconded by Alderman Korff, and <br />unanimously approved, the City Manager was authorized to execute a contract <br />with the General Electric Company for the purchase of the Citys' requirements <br />of light globes. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A petition from the residents of Valley Street, bordering on Purgatory <br />Creek, requesting that the City have the weeds and tall grass cut along the <br />creek, was approved subject to the property owners giving the necessary permission <br />for the City entering on private property to complete the work. <br /> <br />A tabulation of the bids received and opened at 2 o'clock P.M., July <br />7th, for the purchase of a motor vehicle, was presented to the City Council. A <br />copy of the Bid Tabulation is attached and made a part of these minutes. The <br />City Manager reported that the Scrutchin Motor Company had in stock a vehicle <br />costing approximately $100.00 more than the one offered in their bid.
