.;~~
~~/

Alderman Beecroft made a motion, which was seconded by Alderman
Hillburn, that the MaYor and the City Manager be authorized, after a report
from the factory representative, to contact Mr. Cage of Cage Brothers to
negotiate the purchase of the machine. upon roll call the Ayes and Nayes
were as follows: .

~,
zl
(')
t;t:1
1::::1

AYES: Aldermen Beecroft
Hillburn
Korff
H. W. Steakley

Whereupon the Mayor del cared the motion passed for the purchase of the Barber- I
Greene finishing machine, Serial #879A-155, from Cage Brothers.

NAYES": None

City Manager Fuller informed the Council that a request had been re-
ceived to have the fire-plug on the West side of the Square moved. (It is
located directly in front of the building soon to be occupied by the Bass
Drug Co.) The estimated cost of the moving would be from $1,000.00 to
$1,200.00. After a discussion, it was the unanimous feeling of the Council
that this request should be disapproved unless the property owner would bear
the expense of moving the plug.

The City Manager informed the Council that a group of young people
and adults from the First Methodist Church in Ballinger had contacted
Mr. Damon of the Chamber of Commerce regarding a place for their group to
camp overnight. After consultation with Mr. Damon, the City Manager had
allowed this group to use the recreation building at the City Park for a fee
of $12.00 (no cooking or kitchen use included). A letter of thanks from
Harriet Magruder, Youth Director of the First Methodist Church of Ballinger
was read to the Council. The City Manager expressed the need for facilities
to accommodate groups of this nature. The Mayor stated that he felt it was
a nice gesture on the part of the City Manager to extend this courtesy to
the group and suggested that it be the policy of the City to accommodate
future groups providing the recreation building was not in use.

The City Manager presented for the information of the Council, the I
need for a revision in the garbage and sewer charges for vacant apartments.
Ihe policy has been that upon presentation of statement of vacancy of an
apartment for a period of sixty (60) days, the customers receive credit on
their bill. City Manager FUller stated that a study of monthly credits
allowed in the past had been made revealing how this policy had "snowballed".
Credits allowed amounted to approximately 3.~ of income from water and
sewage during 1957-58. The City Manager stated that it would appear that a
reduced rate could be made thus eliminating ~ credits and reported that
additional information would be furnished from time to time to the Council
assisting them in arriving at an equitable rate.

The United Gas Co. requested that the Ordinance regulating gas piping
be amended to allow the installation of outside gas lights. The proposed
amendment to this Ordinance had received a favorable recommendation from the
Fire Marshall. Alderman Hillburn introduced an Ordinance Amending the
Ordinance Regulating Gas Piping which was read in full. The Ordinance is
captioned: "

"AN CiIDINANCE REGULATIl'{> THE INSTALLATION OF GAS PIPIl'{>
WITHIN THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, PROVIDIl'{> FOR APPOINTMENT
OF GAS INSPECTOR AND DEFINIl'{> THE OUfIES OF GAS INSPECTOR"
is hereby amended by adding thereto a new section entitled
Section 33, which reads as follows:

I

Alderman Steakley seconded the motion of adoption and upon roll call the
Ayes and Nayes were as follows:

AYES: Aldermen Beecroft
Hillburn
Korff
Steakley

NAYES: None

Whereupon the Mayor declared the amendment to the Ordinance Regulating Gas
Piping adopted.
