Decker <br />County Commissioner Gene Posey <br /> <br />The minutes of the regula" meeting of November 12th were approved as <br />recorded. <br /> <br />The regular oTder of business It/as dispensed W1L.n to discuss with Hays <br />County repI'esentatives, County Judge C~. M. Decker and County Cormnissioner <br />Gene Posey, the renewal of a Fire Fighting Agreement between the City of San <br />Marcos and County of Hays, approv&d July 15, 1958, due to expire December 31, <br />195d. Nlayor .Allen asked Judge Decker and COrTlInissiof1e:r Posey what arrangements <br />had been made by the County Commissioners, i.f any, to provide foX' their own <br />fire-fighting equipment or i.f it was their wish to renew the present agreement. <br /> <br />Judge Decker stated there was a possibility that, through the National <br />Civil Defense Program, the Ccunty might be able to secure a fire truck from <br />Camp Gary, some time in the future, and would like to have the truck stoTed <br />in one of the Citys' stations. Nlayo:r Allen then asked if it was the Countys' <br />i,rtenti.on to payche salary of a driver, to which the Judge s'cated he could <br />not pros2ntly make a commitment. They also stated that they did not feel <br />that the present agreement had- proven satisfactory as it v..'afi net always <br />possible fOT one of the- Commissioners or the Judge to be reached at the time <br />of a fire. After some discussion, motion WDS made by Alde~man Beecroft, <br />seconded by Alderman Davis, to extend the present contract for a period or <br />sixty (60) days, from January 1, 1959, at which time, if" no agreement has <br />heen entered into between the City of San Marcos and the County of Heys, all <br />fire-fighting services outside the city limits would be discontinued. <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller stated that in accordance with instructions from <br />the Council, he had con tacted the Brown Schools regarding extension of <br />utilities to the new schooL site and the arrangement, approved by the Council, <br />of paying a proportional cost, based on the percentage within the city limits, <br />was agreeable \f,il th them. He also stated that M;r. Paul Rogers had been COh- <br />tacLed regarding dedicating right-of-~ay for the entrance road and that <br />i'ilr.. HogeT's was agreeable TO dedicating thirty (30) feet providing the 'San <br />Marcos Independent School District and Brown Schools would give a like <br />amount.. Brown Schools had agreed and th[~ Superintendent of Schools had noti- <br />fied the City iAanage:c that the matteT VJould be brought to The attention of <br />the School B02rd a-t ttlei;r next meeting. <br /> <br />The Ci-~_y i'!lan2ger stated that the Superintendent of -cne ;;3an'M.arcos Ind. <br />Schoci lJistrict had contacted him and requested that the City accept a street <br />connecting the Seguin RDad with the Staples Road, which will be directly in <br />front of the new high school site~ The .school Superintendent stated that the <br />;:Jcnool t.'1Jould provide curbing and base accordi.ng to the Citys 1 specifications; <br />the City to provide the 5urfece and raaintenance.. Ci ty r~lanager Fuller stated <br />that in his opinion this could be" arrangGc and the'street accepted, if agree- <br />able with the Council, however, it had be~n brought to the attention of the <br />School Board that this will be a public street, and it could be inconvenient <br />tD the :3chool to have it in front of their buildings.. The :3chool anthoy::..ties <br />had informed the Ci:':~y :!A2.nage:r that they have no objection.. He, therefore, <br />recommenoed that t.he street be accepted. Motion was made by Alderman Hillburn, <br />seconded by li..lderman Steakley, to accept the street, with the' provision that <br />right-of-1Nay, curbing and base meet with CitY'51 specifications, which was <br />approved unanimously. <br />
