<br />48 <br /> <br />~ <br />::0 <br />r: <br />n <br />n <br /> <br />An ordinance adopted ~larch 6, 1946, recorded in Volume 10, Page 319 of <br />the Ccuhcil Minutes, limits underground stDrage of petroleum products to tanks <br />of 1,000 gallons capacity except by special permission of the City Council. Humble <br />Oil & Refilling Company had request.ed to install one 3,000 and two 5,000 gallon <br />tanks at the filling station which they are constructing on North Guadalupe <br />Street. Alderman Millburn made a motion, seconded by Alderman Davis that the <br />Council grant Humble Oil <'. [=tefining Company -permission to install one 3,000 and <br />tWD 5,000 gallon tanks at their filling station under construction on North <br />Guadalupe street. The motion was passed by a ur;anirnous vote of the Council. <br /> <br />Several merchants on the west side of the Square had requested that the <br />space in front of the Old Texas Theatre be utilized for parking if the theatre <br />was not to be reopened. Mr. McCarthy, mmer of the theatre building, was con- <br />tacted relative to this request, and he advised that he intended to reopen the <br />theatre. After a discussion of the need :POI' additional parking space, Alderman <br />Hillburn made a motion, seconded by Alderman 3eecraft, that parking meters <br />could be installed in f~ont of a vacant theatre building sixty days after noti- <br />fication of the owner. ~fhe motion ,was passed by a unanimous vote of the Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />City Manager fuller noted that there had been some abuse of parking prlvl- <br />leges, especially by contractors and others where buildings are being repaired <br />or constructed.. !:-Ie TecoJft[nended that the City purchase Umeter hoods" which could <br />be inse:rted over the meter head and fastened. The ltotion was passed by E;. unanimous vat!) of the Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />City Manager fuller reported to the Council on a recent visit he had made <br />to the Corps of Eoqinae.rs Fort -:i-lorth Dist:rict Off~ce regarding the f:ooding of <br />Purgatory Creek. After a consideration. J.f the flooding in the San Ma~cos area, <br />!vir.. Jerrt.y of the Corps of Engi:l.eers suggested that the City start docu;nenting <br />the demage sustained in the area. The Council could then send this information <br />to -the c.;ongrQssional aepresentative in /Jashington.. If the proper appropriation <br />V,j2S approved by Congress, the project waul-a be -:;urned OV81' -:'0 -the Corps of <br />Engineers for study and construction.. ',';illiams fer a sign on the lots which <br />.the City pu:rchasecl from Mr. :'Jilliams. ;\fter some disclJssion of previous policy <br />'.Ni.th respect to space rented for the erect:~on of signs, the council agreed to <br />accept the \>10.00 check as payment of sign rental for this contract year, with <br />a notice that the rent v~il1be $/.5.00 next ye21'.. <br /> <br />It was noted that the 1957 Plymouth s:?dan used by the Police Department <br />has over 55,000 miles on it and is in very bad repaiT. After a discussion of <br />the maintenance cost of the cars used in the Police Depax'tment, the Council <br />agreed that specifications should be drGwn up and bids called cn a heavy duty <br />polic8 special cat. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Council agreed that there would 0e no parking meter charges on the <br />followin'j days: <br /> <br />July 4 <br />September 1 <br />November 26 <br />December 25 <br />January 1 <br />
