<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />) ) g <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller presented a list of all property owned by religious <br />institutions with its tax status, as requested by the Council. It was the <br />unaminDus decision that this list should be reviewed carefully before the <br />next tax roll is prepared to determine if the property is subject to taxa- <br />tion. <br /> <br />At the October meeting; the City Manager was instructed to try and <br />obtain an easement for drainage on Barbara Drive. Mr. Fuller informed <br />the Council that so far there was nothing definite to report. <br /> <br />City Manager Fuller informed the Council that Mr. Irv Peterson has <br />agreed to allow the sewer service from the hospital to be connected to <br />the line across his property. The City will receive a portion of 'the <br />$400.00 connection charge from the County. <br /> <br />A tabulation of the insurance Report was presented by the City Mana- <br />ger for the Council's approval. After the Council considered each item, <br />Alderman Korff moved that the Report be accepted omitting the collision <br />clause in the Automobile Fleet Policy. Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion <br />which 'passed unanimously. <br /> <br />The Council was informed by the City Manager that the work on the lift <br />station has been completed by Ott Plumbing Company and a Certificate of <br />Completion has been issued by the engineer. So far as can be determined, <br />the work has been completed in accordance with the Plans and Specifications. <br />The total final bill was $12,245.82 (contract was for $12,884.00). City <br />Manager Fuller recommended that the work be accepted. After brief discus- <br />sion, the Council unanimously agreed to accept the work. The City Manager <br />noted that the work at the disposal plant has been substantially completed. <br />The final inspectior; is planned for Monday, November 16, 1959. <br /> <br />The Mountain Laurel Garden Club submitted, by mail, a petition, signed <br />by twenty-one members requesting that "such steps be taken as may be neces-- <br />sary to secure the cleaning of vacant lots and alleys in the City, and to <br />enforce tne recently passed ordinance for the cleaning of blind street <br />intersections". The Council instructed the City Manager to write the Club <br />thanking them for their civic interest and informing th~m th9t the ordi- <br />nance would be enforced. <br /> <br />The City Manager noted that a request has been received from some ,of <br />the colored citizens for assistance in cleaning the colored cemetery. This <br />is located outside the city limits on the Old Post Road. The Mayor said <br />that he and the City Manager had discussed the matter and felt that, subject <br />to the approval of the Council, some assistance should be given. After some <br />discussion the Council unanimously agreed. <br /> <br />A list of bids received on the City's anti-freeze requirements was <br />presented. The lowest bid came from Humble, therefore, the contract was <br />awarded to them. <br /> <br />For the interest of the Council, City Manager Fuller stated that Mr. <br />H. B. Cochran has advised that he discon~inued the operation of the city <br />buses which he operated under a franchise recently given by the City. This <br />operation was discontinued on November 6, 1959. <br /> <br />During the year 1946, SWTSC purchased five (5) lots from various owners. <br />These lots were bougnt at different times during the year. In keeping with <br />the policy at that time, the College collected the taxes due for the part <br />of year owned by a private owner. When the College obtained title, the <br />property was removed from the tax roll and placed on the tax exempt roll. <br />The College is still holding these monies and the property is bei~g carried <br />on the delinquent roll. City Manager Fuller, after stating that he had <br />consulted with the Business Manager at the College, recommended that a <br />settlement be made regarding the delinquent taxes and they be removed from <br />the roll. After some discussion, the Council decided that an adjustment <br />should be made as recommended. <br /> <br />The Wally Byam Caravanners indicated through the City Manager that <br />they would like to return to San Marcos for the following visits; <br />
