<br />REGULAR MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 1960 <br /> <br />On the 8th day of November 1960, at 1:30 o'clock P. M., <br />the Governing Body of the City of San Marcos met in regular session <br />at the City Hall, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding. <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor <br />Alderman <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />C. M. Allen <br />S. R. Bee croft <br />W. M. Davis <br />B. D. Hi llburn <br />Herman Korff <br />Ci ty Manager B. R. Fuller <br />City Secretary Judy B. Brackett <br />Absent: Alderman James Tuttle <br />Also Present: Mrs. Roland Manske, AAUW, <br />Hill, L. J. Eastwood, Henry Kyle, Leroy Theileman, H. M. Walling, <br />Buckner, Archie Grusendorf, Roscoe Chambliss and Bob VanGundy. <br /> <br />James <br />Nalter <br /> <br />The meeting WaS called to order by the Mayor. The minutes <br />of the meetings of October 11th and October 27th were approved. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />As the first order of business, the Mayor expressed the <br />Council's appreciation to the members of the Advisory Committee <br />appointed to study the matter of municipal ownership of electrical <br />distribution systems. The Mayor explained that many of the <br />questionaires, sent to Texas cities owning their own electrical <br />systems, had been '.eturned and the results had been tabulated. <br />The forms were available for study by the Committee. The Mayor <br />explained the Coul.,cil hoped the Committee would study the matter <br />as they desired, the City Manager's office would furnish assistance <br />in obtaining additional information and tabulating the information <br />received. The Mayor also advised that the members of the Committee <br />might want to visit other cities to investigate the matter and, if <br />they did, transportation could be furnished by the City. The <br />Committee retired to meet and select their chairman and secretary. <br />The Mayor and Council approved a request that the Committee select <br />two additional members. to serve. <br /> <br />The Council approved a recommendation by the City Manager <br />that adequate street lighting b~ included in the construction of <br />the section of the Interstate Highway 35 thru San Marcos. It was <br />noted that this would contribute to the safety of the traveling <br />public. The City Manager was authorized to continue negotiations <br />with the District Engineer to justify this illumination. <br /> <br />A recommendati.on that the Council adopt a standard <br />policy of utility extension to new industries was tabled for <br />further study by the Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A request from the San Marcos Baptist Academy for improve- <br />ments in the general area of the Academy received careful consideration <br />by the Council. The Council's interest in the further development <br />and expansion of this vital asset to the City was apparent. The <br />City Manager was directed to study constructing a new entrance into <br />the Academy from Ranch Road 12 and the cost of this improvement; <br />improvements to Academy Street from Lindsey Street northward to <br />James Street was approved to be included in the next street improvement <br />program; and, additional street lights on Academy Street was approved. <br /> <br />A request from Mr. G. A. MacNaughton that the City open the <br />remaInIng portions of Yale Street and High Street in the MacNaughton <br />Addition was approved and the City Manager directed to have this item <br />placed on the construction program. <br />
