<br />7..5 <br /> <br />SPECIAL IvLEETING HELD ON JANUARY 18, 1961 <br /> <br />On the 18th day of January 1961, at 10:00 o'clock in the <br />morning, the Governing Body of the City of San Marcos met in <br />Special Session in the City Hall, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Mayor <br />Aldermen: <br /> <br />City Manager <br />City Secretary <br /> <br />C. M. Allen <br />S. R. Beecroft <br />B. D. Hillburn <br />Herman Korff <br />James Tuttle <br />B. R. Fuller <br />Judy B. Brackett <br /> <br />Kenneth Sutton <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by the Mayor who explained <br />the meeting had been called to canvass the returns of a Special <br />Election, held on January 17, 1961 for the purpose of electing an <br />alderman to fill an unexpired term, and such other matters as might <br />be properly brought to the attention of the governing body. <br /> <br />A canvass of the election returns disclosed that thjre <br />were eight hundred and two (802) ballots used as follows: <br /> <br />Kenneth Sutton <br />Bob VanGundy <br />Reuben Ruiz <br />Luciano Rodriguez <br />Mutilated, spoiled, thrownout, etc. <br /> <br />285 <br />262 <br />244 <br />1 <br />---1Q... <br />802 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />whereupon Alderman Hillburn made a motion that the election results <br />be accepted, the motion was seconded by Alderman Tuttle and carried <br />unanimously. Whereupon Mayor Allen declared that Kenneth Sutton <br />had heen elected to complete the term left vacant by the death of <br />Mr. W. M. Davis, the term expiring on April 1, 1962, or when a <br />successor had qualified. <br /> <br />The Oath of Office waS administered by Mayor Allen to <br />Mr. Sutton and the congratulations and cooperation of the Council <br />were extended to the newly elected Alderman. <br /> <br />The members of the Council were notified of a meeting of <br />the Alamo Region of the Texas Municipal League to he held in <br />Kerrville on January 31st. The Mayor suggested that the members <br />attend and urged Alderman Sutton to go, as it would be of great <br />benefit to him in his new work. <br /> <br />I <br />-- <br /> <br />The City Manager reported on conferences with the officials <br />of the San Marcos Academy regarding a new entrance into their pro- <br />perty from RM 12. Alderman Korff introduced a motion to accept a <br />deed conveying right-of-way for straightening the north end of <br />Moore Street, abandoning an off-set portion and directing the City <br />Manager to have the necessary ordinances and requirements prepared <br />before the next regular meeting. This motion was seconded by <br />Alderman Tuttle and carried. <br /> <br />The matter'of parking around the new dormatories at <br />Southwest Texas State College was discussed. The Council approved <br />a recommendation of the City Manager to prohihit parking on the <br />east side of North Edward Gary Street, the widening of East Woods <br />Street between North Austin and Edward Gary, the providing of off- <br />street parking on the North side of Concho Street, and off-street <br />parking around the new dormatory at the intersection of Matthews <br />and North Guadalupe Streets. <br /> <br />I <br />L <br />
