, ,

/1

REGULAR ~~ETING HELD ON JUNE 13. 1961

On the 13th day of June 1961, at 2:00 o'clock in the after-
noon, the Governing body of the City of San Marcos met in regular
session in the City Hall, Mayor C. M. Allen presiding.

I

Present: Mayor
Alderman

C. M. Allen
B. D. Hillburn
Herman Korff
Ruben,R\liz
Kenneth Sutton
J. E. Younger, Jr.

City Nianager
f"';4''':v SAr;'r'Atarv

B. H. Fuller
Judy Brackett Tomlinson

Guests

Mrs. Holand Manske - AAUW
Mr. Tom Buckner - Record
Mrs. Jerry Veidt - KCNY
James Hill, Bob Kerchville, C. V. Carson,
Mrs. Edra Allbright, Joe Rodriguez,
Kenneth Weatherford, S. R. Copeland,
Frank Brown, R. L. Bunting, Bill Veidt.

The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. The minutes
of the meetings of May 9th and 24th were approved.

I

The first item of business was to hear Mr. Bob Kerchville,
spokesman for the San Marcos Baptist Academy, request that the Council
'give immediate attention. to improvements to Academy Street from James
Street to Lindsey Street and to open Grace Street from Ranch Road 12
into the edge of the Academy's property. After a lengthy discussion,
Alderman Korff moved that the City open Grace Street immediately and
that the City Manager do necessary engineering to determine what could
be done to Academy Street to improve and widen it. The motion was
seconded by Alderman Younger and passed unaminously.

Mr. C. V. Carson spoke to the Council on his plans to do
additional construction and alteration to his establishment at the
Traffic Circle. In the work contemplated, it was found that the interest
of the public could be best served by shifting the intersection of Austin
Street with Interstate 35 some 10 feet to the Northeast. Alderman
Hillburn moved that the city exchange land with Mr. Carson and move the
entrance as requested. lhis motion was seconded by Alderman Korff and
carried unaminously.

Mr. S. R. Copeland appeared before the Council and requested
that sewer and water lines be extended to his property on Linda Drive and
that Linda Drive be improved and paved. lhe Council studied the matter
and agreed that the water line could be extended at no cost to the prop-
erty owners, however, if they wanted the sewer line extended it would
require that the property owners pay the cost of the materials and the
City would lay the line.

I

At the last Council meeting, the matter of ambulance calls
had been referred to the City Manager and City Attorney for study and
report. The City Secretary read a letter from the City Manager and City
Attorney in which they recommended that the Police Department ascertain
from the party needing ambulance service which of the three establish-
ments was desired. In the event the party was not able to make a deci-
sion, then the establishments were to be called on a rotation schedule.
