<br />" . <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br />~ <br />n <br />~ <br /> <br />The City Manager informed the Council that the appointment <br />of Dr. Moore as City Health Officer will expire on September 10, 1961. <br />Alderman Ruiz made a motion to re-appoint Dr. Moore to serve the term <br />September 11, 1961 through September 10, 1962. Alderman Sutton Seconded, <br />motion carried. <br /> <br />In order for the State to erect and maintain STOP signs, the <br />City Manager recommended the fOllowing signs be authorized: <br /> <br />At their intersection with Interstate 35 on Texas Avenue, <br />Sherwood Avenue, Broadway, Woodcrest, Ebony, Ellis, Reeves <br />and Marshall. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />At their intersection with State 123 on Dietrich Drive, <br />Staples Road and County Road. <br /> <br />At their intersection with Old Staples Road on Dietrich <br />Dri ve, Durango, Sal tillo, Laredo 8. Tampico Streets. <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz moved the recommendation be accepted as presented. <br />Alderman Korff seconded, motion carried. <br /> <br />The City Manager explained that there was some confusion <br />between the State and local authorities regarding the established speed <br />limit in school zones, and crossings. Alderman Sutton introduced an <br />ordinance and moved its adoption. The ordinance was read in full by <br />the City Manager and is captioned. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE SPEED LIMIT WITHIN <br />SCHOOL ZONES AND SCHOOL CROSS I NGS: REPEALI NG <br />ORDI NANCES OR PARTS OF ORDI NANCES IN CONFLI CI I <br />AND, PROVIDI NG AN EFFECT! VE DATE. <br /> <br />The motion of adoption was seconded by Alderman Ruiz and upon roll call <br />the ayes and nays were as follows: <br /> <br />AYES, Korff, Ruiz, Sutton and Younger <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />NAYS. None <br />Whereupon presiding officer Younger declared the ordinance passed, <br />approved and adopted. <br />\ <br />Alderman Ruiz asked that the City Manager arrange to have <br />a policeman on duty at the James Bowie School each day when school <br />lets out. <br /> <br />Alderman Sutton made a motion granting permission to C. V. <br />Carson to install three overhead gasoline storage tanks, in excess of <br />1,000 gallons, at the site of hiS new servi ce station Interstate 35 <br />and South Austin Streets, provided that earthen dykes are constructed <br />to prevent the possible flooding of gasbline into Mckie Creek. The <br />dyke to have sufficient capacity to hold the contents of the elevated <br />tanks plus 10%. Alderman Ruiz seconded, motion carried. <br /> <br />A request from Mr. J. E. Watson for a parking meter permit <br />was not approved. It was the unaminous decision of the council that <br />they not deviate from the established policy on parking permits. <br /> <br />The Council authorized the City Manager to pave some 500 feet I <br />of Texas Avenue into the Widelite Corporation. This project to fall <br />in line with other projects planned and when funds are available. <br /> <br />The San Marcos Baptist Academy requested the City to open Moore <br />Street as an entrance into the Academy. Dt. Crook has requested that <br />the City relocate the street to permit better utilization of property <br />that the Academy has recently purchased. Relocation of the street will <br />nece~sitate council approval to abandon present right of way of Moore <br />Street. Discussion ~as postponed until a plat of this area could be <br />furnished by County Surveyor James R. Hall. <br />
