The motion of adoption was seconded by Alder- <br />man Korff and the ordinance was read in full. Upon roll call the ayes <br />and nays were as follows: <br />Ayes: Allen, Hillhurn, Korff, Ruiz, Sutton, and Younger. <br />Nays: None <br />Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the Ordinance Passed Approved and Adopted. <br /> <br />The State Highway Department has asked that the City quit- <br />claim all properties owned within the new right-of-way of the proposed <br />interstate highway through San Marcos. The quit-claim deed is to be <br />prepared by the State Highway Department. Alderman Hil1burn made a <br />motion, seconded by Alderman Sutton and passed unanimously, the City <br />Manager was instructed to notify the Highway Department to have the <br />quit-claim deed prepared for their consideration. <br /> <br />The City Manager reeorted that So far this year the City <br />had paved 78,035 sq. yds. of streets at a total cost of $20,002.85 or <br />a ne~ cost of25.63~ per sq. Yd. This would be a stretch 6.65 miles <br />long with a width of 20 feet. <br /> <br />A renort on the activities of the San Marcos Library was <br />considered by the" Council. <br /> <br />The City Manager was authorized to install at the City Park <br />the reqUired electrical connections, sewer connections and water ser- <br />vice for the Wally 8yam Caravann to use at the Pre-Mexico Rally, Janu- <br />ary 27th through February 5, 1962. <br /> <br />The City Manager was authorized to advertise for bids for <br />motor equipment for the Fire Chief, garbage Department and a brush Chip- <br />per. The bids to be submitted to the Council for their consideration <br />when prepared. <br /> <br />The City accepted a franchise for a water line on River <br />Road from Ascencion and Francis Musquiz. <br /> <br />The utility Department was authorized to refund a $25.00 <br />sewer tap fee to Mrs. Louise Stuenkel as the City was unable to connect <br />her property to the sewer. <br /> <br />The request of Mr. Raymond Russell, Jr., for a reduction <br />in the tax assessment on his property at the corner of Sherwood and <br />Highway 81 for the years 1959 and 1960 was passed without action. <br /> <br />A request by the Home Furniture Company for a reconsidera- <br />tion of the inventory assessment by the Board of Equalization was passed <br />without action. <br /> <br />A request by Mr. R. L. Bunting for a change in the water <br />connections serving two users in the Fairlawn Addition was referred to <br />the City Manager to determine that the arrangement was satisfactory <br />with the two users. <br /> <br />The Council was informed that the Texas Municipal Retire- <br />ment System had been contacted and had advised that Asa Dees, a.city em- <br />ployee who had resigned, was not entitled to retirement although he has <br />completed 20 years of service. He had not reached the age of 55 years <br />which is the minimum retirement age for employees, with less than 28 <br />years of continuous service. <br /> <br />There being no further business, the Council, on motion, <br />adjourned at 4135 P.M. <br /> <br />(DJ //) \ (Xl/if ~r j <br /> <br />C.
