<br />~ <br />1(1, <br />1/ <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />L <br /> <br />Adjourned Meeting August 21, 1962 page 4 <br /> <br />The City Manager stated that a traffic problem existed at the <br />intersection of Guadalupe and Interstate 35 regarding school <br />children crossing to ,James Bowie and High School. He reported <br />that he had discussed this with District 14 Highway officials <br />and that the State was planning to construct a four-fo.ot sidewalk <br />across the Tnterstate from McKie CI'eek to the Seguin Highway. It <br />was requested that the Council approve the City's continuing the <br />sidewalkaliimg the southwest side of Guadal'dlpe street from the point <br />the Highway Department stopped theirwa];k, northward to Roo,sevelt I <br />Street,adistance of approximately 500 feet. Alderman Stokes <br />moved that the City Manager be authorized to build this necessary <br />portion of sidewalk. Alderman Ruiz seconded ,the motion, which <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes brought up the matter of a hazardous traffic <br />problem with school children at Campus School. He asked that the <br />City Manager consult with Supt. Hutchison on working out a control <br />system, po.ssibly with the use of a patrolman at peak hours. <br /> <br />. A general discussion, was held on the handling of City prisoners <br />at the County Jail. Alderman Swift moved tMt the City Manager <br />direct the City Attorney to prepare a contract with the County <br />providing for the City's use of the County Jail, and present it <br />to the County for their suggestions and acceptance. Both Alderman <br />Ruiz and Alderman Moore said the City' Council should examine any <br />proposed contract before it is sent to the Commissioners Court. <br />After considerable discussion, the City Manager asked that the <br />Co.uncil approve the motion. Alderman Swift amended his motion to <br />read that the City Attorney should, take the contract to the City <br />Manager, who, in turn, would present it to the Council. The amended <br />motion died for lack of a second. <br /> <br />Alderman Younger moved that the meeting adj ourn. The motion was <br />seconded by Alderman Moore.
