The had agreed to come to San Marcos in November, <br />and a firm date would be announced soon. He offered to take the Cpuncil <br />members to the proposed site of the Recreation Area. Alderman Swift suggested <br />that "We be hosts to the people from New Braunfels" when the joint meeting is <br />held with the delegations from Comal County and Hays County. <br /> <br />Under "City Manager Items",the following business was transacted: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Swift moved .that the City Manager be authorized to ask for bids <br />on one~aft radar equipment for the Police Department for the control of <br />speeding on City streets. Mayor Allen asked about the cost of the equipment, <br />and the City Manager said a unit would cost between $900 and $1250. Alderman <br />Stokes moved that the low bid on street sign materials be accepted. He amended <br />the motion to" include accepting the Dollinger bid on channel posts in order to <br />take advantage of earlier delivery. Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, which <br />paSSed unanimouSly. A tab.lation of the bids is attached. <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz moved that the low bidder, Continental Oil Co., be awarded the <br />contract for anti-freeze for City equipment. Alderman Younger seconded the <br />motion, which passed unanimously. A tabulation of the bids is attached as <br />part of the Minutes. <br /> <br />The City Manager rep~rted that the San Marcos Cemetery Association had requested <br />permission"to beautify the entrance to the Cemetery,and had offered $1000 <br />toward ereciion of a fence. Alderman Swift moved that the City Manager be <br />authorized to take bids on erection of a fence and gate for the Cemetery <br />property. In the discussion of the fence, Alderman Stokes suggested that the <br />.hours established by a recent City Ordinance be printed on the neW sign at the <br />main gate of the Cemetery. Alderman Stokes seconded the motion, which passed <br />.unanimousl y. <br /> <br />Alderman Younger moved that the City Manager be,authorized.to apply for a I <br />radio frequency on the Municipal Band for USe by the Fire Department and <br />department heads. ,The benefits of having a second radio frequency were <br />discussed. Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Alderman SWift moved that the City issue a letter to Al Churchill granting <br />him Rexclusive and sole right to establish and maintain an aeronautical <br />advisory station to Serve the landing area for one year". It was explained <br />by the City Manager that Mr. Churchill had app1ied~o FCC for a liCense <br />to operate an aeronautical advisory station (radio) at the Municipal Airport. <br />FCC regulations require that the applicant must own the landing area, or have <br />a contractual agre.ementwith the owner. Alderman stokes seconded the motion, <br />which pasSea unanimously. <br /> <br />\ <br /> <br />The City Manager called to the attention of the Council that the State Highway <br />Department had requested SeVeral months ago the approval of the Council on the <br />sale oj surplus land adjoining Carson's Restaurant. Alderman Swift moved that <br />the matter be tabled until the Highway Department has all surplus parcels of <br />land ready for sale, so that the.matter may be disposed of with one action. <br />Alderman Rub seCOnded the motion, which paSsed unanimOUSly. <br /> <br />The" City Manager notified the Council that the City's Workmen's Compensation <br />POlicy will expire on Nov. 16, 1962. He explained a choice in reduced <br />premiums or broader coverage was offered. Alderman Ruiz moved that the <br />policy be renewed with the broader coverage for workmen. Alderman Younger <br />Seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Swift introduced an ordinanCe Covering corporation court costs, <br />and moved its adoption. Caption of the Ordinance is as followsl <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING COURT COSTS AND <br />JURY FEES FOR THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS <br /> <br />Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion and on roll call the following vote was <br />recorded 1 <br /> <br />AYE: Moore, Ruiz, StokeS, Swift, Younger <br />NAYt" None <br /> <br />Whereupon, Mayor Allen declared the Ordinance PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED. <br />
