Mrs. Henry Contreras and
Mrs. Joe Arzola.

I

Mayor Pro-Tem Younger called the meeting to order at 7100 o'clock p.m.

I

Mrs. Ruth Avey appeared before the Council as spokesman for the Girl
Scout Neighborhood Council. She presented a request for the exclusive
use by the Girl Scouts of San Marcos of the Coy DeViney house on the
City's recently acquired "Gilcrease property" for development under the
Open Space Land Program. Mrs. Avey explained the need for a Girl Scout
House as a meeting. training and recreational center. They had inspected
the house and found it could be made adequate for their purposes with very
little remodeling. The Mayor Pro-Tem thanked Mrs. Avey and her delegation
for coming. He said that the use of the house would probably have to be
of a temporary nature. as eventualldevelopment of the property as a
recreational area might require demolition of the house. Mr. Younger
said the request would be forwarded to the Planning Commission for inclus-
ion in their overall plans for development of the property. and he suggest-
ed that the group appear before the Planning Commission to discuss their
needs. He said he felt sure the Council would approve the Planning
Commission's recommendation for permanent facilities for the Girl Scouts.
Alderman Stokes stated he was sympathetic to the Girl Scout Movement.
and that he did not believe any utilization had been planned for the
Coy DeViney house. He said there were many factors that would have to be
taken into consideration if the house were made available~ and contracts
signed between the City and the Girl:!Scout Council. Alderman Stokes moved
that the Council refer the Neighborhood COuncil'S request to the Planning
Commission to be considered at their next meeting. Alderman SWift seconded
the motion. In the general discussion. Alderman Ruiz made the observation
that since the Council had recently signed a new contract for the Golf
Course for adult recreation. approval of the request of the Girl Scouts
would reflect their concern for all ages. On roll call. the following
vote was recorded:

AYE 1 Moore. Ruiz. Stokes. SWift
NAY: None

Whereupon, the Mayor Pro-Tem declared the motion carried.

~~
