adjourned regular meeting, apri1 16, 1963 page three

c,~

>d-l ~.

with the General Neighborhood Renewal Plan currently
getting underway.

7. Alderman Ruiz said he had assumed responsibility for
expediting action on the Cruz Partition problem, and
expected to have a progress report soon.

I

8. The Mayor and Alderman Moore stated that an all-weather
road to the hospital was of primary importance. Guests
at the meeting entered into the discussion of the need
for a paved road from Bugg Lane along Thorp Lane. The
City Manager estimated the cost of the road at between
$20,000 and $25,000. Right-of-way would have to be bought.
It was brought out that the proposed new bridge over the
San Marcos River would provide a safe road to the hospital
at all times.

10. It was brought out that there is inadequate fire protect-
ion in the Purgatory Street (Gravel Street) area and the
Wallace Addition. Councilmen agreed that water mains
should be laid wherever there is the greatest concentration
of people.

11.

Alderman Pool asked for a discussion on the need for
improvements at the Municipal Airport. The question of
responsibility for mowing, etc. was discussied. It was
brought out that the airport property is privately owned
and presently under lease, the City owning only the runways.
The need for restrooms was stressed. Alderman Stokes said
the Council in years past, before he was a member, had felt
that as long as there were unpaved streets in the City, they
could not justify paving at the airport, which is outside the
City Limits. He said he didn't think the budget could stand
extensive improvements this year, but perhaps the City could
extend the water lines to the Airport this year, and include
other improvements another year.

I

12. Execution of a contract within 60 days for Codification of
the City's ordinances and documents was discussed. It was
schedUled to be budgeted over a two-year period, the City
Manager explained. The City Manager explained that paving of Fredericksburg
Street had been delayed because it was necessary to tear it
up and reverse the drainage syste~. The City Manager was
instructed to give it top priority.

After:discussion of
the City Manager be
as priority items.
unanimously.

each of the 26 items, Alderman Swift moved that
directed to include them, as amended, in the budget
Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, which passed

"I,

Mrs. Ollie Giles came before the Council to make a request for use of
the Colored usa Building for a recreation center for children. She
asked if hot and cold water could be installed in the building.
Mrs. Giles was informed her request would be forwarded to the Recreation
Council.

I

L.C. Jackson appeared before the Council to register a complaint about
exposed sewer pipes in front of his residence. The sewer pipes were
laid through a canyon and are exposed because of the grade. The City
Manager was directed to make an inspection and report on it at the next
meeting.

tHtl~
