~ I. 0$' TO THE HONORABLE FRANK TAYLOR, MAYOR A1~ THE CITY COUNCIL, SAN MARCOS, Texas GREETINGS I wish to offer the fOllowing suggestions to be incorporated in your future planning for the City of San Marcos and Hays County. if feasible. First, I am vitally interested in the future development of the City and County as one of its citizens and taxpayers; Second, as Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Third, as a Member of the Hays County Historioal Survey Uommittee which is under the jurisdiction of the State Historical Committee, I propose that a suitable place be provided for the preservation of Historical and Genealogical material that may be colleoted through the various olubs and organizations throughout the County with speoialized seotions provided for the different looalities--which could oontain ourrent attraotions to that particular looality to promote "tourism". ~I This ~epartment of Special Uolleotions oould contain state, County (of which there is none that I know ofl town Histories, such as, "The story of Wimberley" by Miss Willidel Schawe, thesis for dootorate degrees--oopies whioh may be obtained from the University of Texas for a nominal fee, and oopies of Family Histories of a genealogical nature, where the family so sees fit to offer them. The primary purpose of this Department would be the preservation of local History, whioh shall include the inventory, development, oOllection, storing and permanent preservation of all Historical materials and items pertaining to the History of Hays Count1 to be aocomplished by the establishment of a local depositor{ in the form of a County Museum and Archives and to enaourage and simulate interet in looal History thus giving both looal oitizens and visitors to our City and County a real sense of understanding of the past and a way of life through the artifacts and Historioal materials thus colleoted and preserved. for posterity. j;vv> I~J~ "~; ~~ .
