<br />~ <br />I. <br /> <br />0$' <br /> <br />TO THE HONORABLE FRANK TAYLOR, MAYOR <br />A1~ THE CITY COUNCIL, SAN MARCOS, Texas <br /> <br />GREETINGS <br /> <br />I wish to offer the fOllowing suggestions to be incorporated <br />in your future planning for the City of San Marcos and Hays County. <br />if feasible. <br /> <br />First, I am vitally interested in the future development of <br />the City and County as one of its citizens and taxpayers; Second, <br />as Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Third, <br />as a Member of the Hays County Historioal Survey Uommittee which <br />is under the jurisdiction of the State Historical Committee, I <br />propose that a suitable place be provided for the preservation of <br />Historical and Genealogical material that may be colleoted through <br />the various olubs and organizations throughout the County with <br />speoialized seotions provided for the different looalities--which <br />could oontain ourrent attraotions to that particular looality to <br />promote "tourism". <br /> <br />~I <br /> <br />This ~epartment of Special Uolleotions oould contain state, <br />County (of which there is none that I know ofl town Histories, such <br />as, "The story of Wimberley" by Miss Willidel Schawe, thesis for <br />dootorate degrees--oopies whioh may be obtained from the University <br />of Texas for a nominal fee, and oopies of Family Histories of a <br />genealogical nature, where the family so sees fit to offer them. <br /> <br />The primary purpose of this Department would be the preservation <br />of local History, whioh shall include the inventory, development, <br />oOllection, storing and permanent preservation of all Historical <br />materials and items pertaining to the History of Hays Count1 to be <br />aocomplished by the establishment of a local depositor{ in the form <br />of a County Museum and Archives and to enaourage and simulate interet <br />in looal History thus giving both looal oitizens and visitors to our <br />City and County a real sense of understanding of the past and a way <br />of life through the artifacts and Historioal materials thus colleoted <br />and preserved. for posterity. <br /> <br />j;vv> I~J~ "~; ~~ <br /> <br />. <br />
