Poo I <br /> <br />Citizens Committee members present: <br /> <br />Walter Buckner, Jack Clark, Billy Creel, Terry Jacks, <br />Dr. Charles Jarvis, Gen. H.G. Maddox, R.J. Pol lard. <br /> <br />Committee Members absent: Dr. Wi Iliam Crook, Henry Kyle, <br />K.Y. Price, jr., Rodgers Storey and J.R. Thornton. <br /> <br />Others present: Mrs. Jerri Veidt and Erica Veidt. <br /> <br />The Mayor caLled the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager read the first draff of a telegram to be <br />sent to the President. Alderman Stokes questioned the <br />economic impact on San Marcos if the telegram were worded <br />in such a way as to advertise to the world that the town was <br />in for hard times if Camp Gary were not utilized in some way. <br />He suggested a change of wording, to, uoffset any economic <br />loss to the City", and it was accepted. Following is the finaJ <br />wording of the message to President Johnson: <br /> <br />"\'Ie, the citizens of your home community hearti Iy <br />concur in and commend you for your courageous decision <br />to effect economy by discontinuing installations of the <br />military establishment not considered vital to the nation's <br />security. While the closing of Camp Gary may have an <br />economic impact on this community, we believe it to have <br />been done in the national interest. We pledge our deter- <br />mined efforts to offset any economic loss to the City of <br />San Marcos by initiative and vigorous civic action.u <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Alderman Stokes moved that City Manager B.R. Fuller be named <br />Coordinator to work with the Council and the Citizens Committee <br />for Camp Gary to Udo al I things necessary and desirous to <br />protect the interests of the City in regard to Camp Gary." <br />A I derman Moore seconded the mot ion', wh i ch passed unan i mous I y. <br /> <br />The Mayor suggested that ex-officio members be appointed to <br />the Citizens Committee for Camp Gary, in order to develop <br />a wider circle of interest and provide a means of dissemination <br />of information. The following ex-officio members were approved: <br /> <br />County Judge Max Smith, San Marcos; County Judge Wm. B.
