A Steering Committee <br />fromthe group was named, with Mayor Frank Taylor as <br />chairman. Others suggested were: Garland Stokes, <br />J.R. Thornton, R.J. Pollard, Bi Ily Creel and H.Y. <br />Price, jr. The Steering Committee as suggested was <br />unanimously approved by the group. on motion of Jack <br />Clark, and second of Alderman Moore. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City Manager explained the next steps to be taken. <br />He stated Fourth Army was still in charge of Camp Gary; <br />that the date for the installation to be turned over to <br />General Services Administration was Dec. I, 1964. <br /> <br />On suggestion of Alderman Stokes, and by common consent, <br />it was decided that the Press would be invited to sit in <br />on meetings of the Citizens Committee for Camp Gary, but <br />that information would be given to the public only through <br />press releases by the Committee. It was emphasized that <br />negotiations must be DdiscreetU and kept within the <br />Committee, because other cities would be attempting to <br />find uses for decativated bases in their areas.
