I
The Mayor stated there was a possibility that the ordinance would be
needed before March 9. Alderman Ruiz said he was opposed to consideration
of the ordinance at the present meeting for two reasons: first, that at
least 24 hours notice, with a copy of the proposed ordinance for study,
was required by Councilmen before they could properly vote; second,
Alderman Ruiz stated he was opposed to billiard tables for San Marcos.
A lengthy discussion on the subject ensued. Alderman Ruiz said he.would
consult the City Attorney on the legality of passing an ordinance pro-
hibiting billiard tables in San Marcos, and asked the City Manager to brief
the proposed ordinance. Alderman Ruiz' motion died for lack of second,
but, by common consent, it was agreed to study the ordinance more fully
before presenting it for passage.

The Mayor informed the Council he had received a petition signed by
fifty friends and neighbors of Fireman Day McCUistion, requesting
that Mr. McCuistion be given an extension of at least 45 days on notice
to vacate the apartment at Fire Station No.3.
