,(; regular meeting, april 13, 1964, page four Alderman Serur stated that there was only one fire plug in Wallace Addition. Alderman Ruiz said the City had appropriated rnpney to put a water line down Monterrey Street; insurance rates Were up because of lack of fire plugs. Alderman Ruiz moved that a 6" water line be laid dbwn Monterrey street at once, since the money is already ap- propTiated. Alderman Pool seconded the motion, which passed unanimous- ly. The Mayor introduced the question of delinquent taxes, and asked the City Manager if there were any suits pending. Mr. Fuller replied that no suits had been entered in a long while, although some suits entered on automobiles in the past had not been,processed. He stated that the tax attorney had sent a representative recently to get data prepara- tory to filing suits., The City Manager said he felt it was not a pro- pitious time to enter sllits, inasmuch as the Board of Equalization will just be beginning its Work. A discussion of the qualifications and duties of a tax attorney ensued. Alderman Ruiz requested that the City Manager prepare a comparative report oh collectionsof delinquent taxes for 1962 and 1963. Alderman Pool asked when the present tax attorney's contract expired. The City Manager said, July 1, 1964. It was brought out that the Council had been unable to get a local attorney to act as tax attorney for the City; many would have a conflict of interest. I Celestino Mendez, jr., appeared,'before the Council to discuss the sched- ule of Charges for use of the ballfields at Memorial Park. Mr. Mendez spoke for the Blue Sox, and pointed out that the team operated II on a shoestring"; that he felt the team benefitted San Marcos through bring- ing teams here from three military bases in the area, as well as San Antonio teams. He felt the fees charged for the fields were too high for the Blue Sox' limited bUdget. Alderman Pool moved that the charge for the ball fields be cut to $10. Alderman Whittenberg seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The City Manager informed the Council of a request for a quit-claim deed to a portion of Lot M, Block 4, B.W. Breeding Addn. In a tax sale, I the west half of the lot was included in error in the deed from the Sheriff to the City as Trustee. Alderman Pool introduced a Resolution authorizing B.R. Fuller to act for the City as Trustee in issuing a quit-claim deed to the referenced property, and moved its approval. The Resolution, attached herewith as a part of the Minutes, was read in full. Alderman Whittenberg seconded the motion, which passed unani- mously. The City Manager gave a report on the lajtest developments on the Camp Gary project.
