The Mayor called the meeting tporder at 7~30 p.m. Austin Varner, Church of
Christ minister, gave the Invocation.

On motion of Alderman Whittenberg and second of Alderman Serur, the Minutes
of the April l3 and April 20 meeting were approved as presented.

Bob Haney appeared before the Council to request the Creation of a "Traffic
Committee". He provided the Council with a sample ordinance creating such
a committee, in force in Falfurrias, Texas. The Mayor commended the group
of interested citizens which Mr. Haney represented, and voiced the opinion
that such a committee should be selected with great care. Alderman Wbittenberg
suggested that the number of members on such a committee be restricted to five
or seven. The Mayor ascertained that such a Traffic Committee would work
only through the Council, and ,in an advisory capacity. Alderman Whittenberg
moved that the City Milnager be instructed to prepare an ordinance providing
for a traffic committee of seven members, for consideration of the Council
at the next regular meeting. Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion and on roll
call, the following vote was recorded:
The Mayor declared the motion carried.

The City Manager preseimted a report on current and delinquent taxes. It
showed that during the fiscal year, delinquent taxes receivable were
reduced $3,891.37; that the City had previously collected from 82% to ~
of the current tax levy during the tax year. However, this had been increased
to 90.64 % during the 1963-1964 year. The City Manager recommended that a
tax attorney not be employed for the coming fiscal year, and an effort made
to collect delinquent taxes through the tax office. The matter was discussed
thoroughly. Alderman Serur moved that the present contract with the tax
attorney not be renewed; that tax suits presently filed should be processed
without delay by the attorney originally filing them; and that no new taXi.
suits be filed. Alderman Whittenberg seconded the motion, and on roll call,
the following vote was recorded:
