<br />, ifl" <br /> <br />!7q <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Was recently passed <br /> <br />to provide for the elimination of discrimination on the <br /> <br />basis of race, color, religion, or national origin; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 established a Com- <br /> <br />munity Relations Service to provide assistance to commun- <br /> <br />ities and persons therein in resolving disputes, disagree- <br /> <br />ments, or difficulties relating to discriminatory practices <br /> <br />based on race, color, religion, or national origin, which <br /> <br />practices invoLve the laws of the United States; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Civi I Rights Act of 1964 provides that the <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Community Relations Service shall, whenever possible, in <br /> <br />performing its functions, seek and utilize the cooperation <br /> <br />of appropriate State or local, public, or private agencies; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos has already established the <br /> <br />Equal Opportunities Committee to perform functions simi lar <br /> <br />to those of the national Community Relations Service; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Marcos Equal <br /> <br />Opportunities Committee be re-named the San Marcos Community <br /> <br />Relations Service, and that, in addition to its already estab- <br /> <br />lished functions and purpose, it assume the responsibility of <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />maintaining contact with the national agency of the same name. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED this 24th day of August, A.D., 1964. <br /> <br />::::: <br />::r.: <br />:>- <br />:z <br />~ <br /> <br />A 1-TES1: ~'" <br />" \/". 11 .'/1 .\ <br />!(t{JJLcAtv .!
