<br />approval of the City Manager's recommendation that the
<br />property be purchased for $2400, and replatted.
<br />Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion, and on rol I call,
<br />the following vote was recorded:

<br />The Mayor declared; the motion carried.
<br />
<br />A communication was receiyedfrom the Chamber of Commerce,
<br />req~esting that merchants be allowed to "sack" meters in
<br />front of their stores on Saturday afternoons and nn those
<br />holidays when meter deP9si~ is not required for parking.
<br />It was felt that shoppers did not know that parking meters
<br />are not in effect on Saturday afternoons and certain holidays,
<br />and that free park i, ngwou I,d increase bus,i,ness. J .M . Sims,
<br />President of the Chamber of Commerce, added that merchants
<br />would be responsible for provi,ding, placing, and removing sacks.
<br />The Counc i I approved the request, by common consent. A I derman
<br />Ruiz asked that merchants check removal of the ~acks so that
<br />streets ,wou I d not be littered.

<br />Alderman Tuttl.e said he had had numerous telephone calls
<br />about an unsightly condition on Academy Streeti The Mayor
<br />a~suredhim that a present City ordinance is being invoked
<br />in the case, in the hope of getti ng the p I ace cl eaned;
<br />otherwise, the Counci I wil I pass a new ordinance ~o cover the
<br />situation.

<br />Alderman Ru i z requested that the Counc i 190 i ntoexecut i ve
<br />session, ~o discuss matters dealing with personnel. At the
<br />Mayor's request, Mr. Ruiz agreed to defe~the matter unti I a

<br />On motion of Alderman Pool, and second of Alderman Serur,
<br />the Counc i I recessed at 8: 30 p. m., to reconvene' at the ea II
<br />of the Mayor.
