<br />regu tar meet i ng, february 8, 1965 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />L.N. Elder came before the Counci I with a drainage problem <br />on West San Antonio Street at Feltner AI ley. ~r. Serur <br />said the City was aware of the flooding problem in many <br />areas of the City. He said he and Mr. McElroy had discuss- <br />ed that area. Assistant City Manager McElroy said a solut- <br />ion would be possible at that point when weather would per- <br />mit drainage work. Mr. Elder thanked the Counci I for their <br />time, and their attention to this matter. <br /> <br />Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Ford came before the Cou nc i I to request I <br />relief from flooding at their property on Moore and RM 12. <br />This is a recurring problem which the City has dealt with <br />for ~~ny years. Mr. Ford said the blame should be placed <br />eit~/with the State Highway Department or the City. The <br />whole problem was reviewed again. The City Manager said he <br />had talked with the State Highway Department again about the <br />matter. Alderman Whittenberg said the Counci I should auth- <br />orize the City Manager or the Assistant City Manager to re- <br />quest the State Highway Department to send an engineer im- <br />mediately to check the problem. Alderman Whittenberg made <br />the observation that flooding is not peculiar to San Marcos. <br />Anyone who I istens to~he radio, watches television or reads <br />the newspapers, he said, knows that other cities, particu- <br />larly San Antonio, have serious drainage problems every time <br />there is a heavy rain. The history of the problem was again <br />reviewed. Mayor Pro Tem Serur asked the City Manager to work <br />out a staisfactory solution to the drainage problem, soon. <br /> <br />Alderman Pool introduced a Resolution commending Frank Taylor <br />for his serv i ce as Mayor of San Marcos from Apr ii, 1963 unt i I <br />his resignation on January 27, 1965, and moved its approval. <br />The Resolution, which is made a part of the Minutes, was read I <br />in full. Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion, and on rol I <br />cal I, the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE; <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Pool, Ruiz, Tuttle, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor Pro Tem declared the Resolution Passed and Approv- <br />ed, and Counci I members signed a copy of the Resolution to <br />be sent to Mr. Taylor. <br /> <br />The Mayor Pro Tem introduced for Counci I action the appoint- <br />ment of two persons to fi I I th~ vacancies on the Planning & <br />Zoning Commission created by the resignations of S.H. Leggitt <br />and Dav i d Conrad. Mr. Serur offered for Counc i I approva I the <br />names ,oF Jesse Adams, teacher at SWTSC, and Don Ennis, assoc- <br />iate of Tiner Insurance Agency. Alderman Pool moved that <br />Jesse Adams and Don Ennis be named to the Planning & Zoning <br />Commission to fi I I the unexpired terms of S.H. Leggitt and <br />David Conrad. Alderman Ruiz seconded the motion, and on rol I <br />call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Pool, Ruiz, Tuttle, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor Pro Tem declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Upon request of Alderman Pool, the City Manager named the <br />other five members of the Planning & Zoning Commission as: <br />Carl Christman, chairman; J.B. Roberts, vice-chairman; <br />Mrs. Katherine S. Hardeman, secretary; Luciano Flores and <br />J.M. Sims. <br />
