regu I ar meet i ng, december 13, 1965

page two

The Mayor informed the Counci I that General Services
Adm~nistration had notified the Acting City Manager
that a Deed Without Warranty to the NSlough TractN
would be forwarded upon receipt of a certified or
cashier's check in the amount of $6,750.00. The
Mayor explained that the City had made a deposit of
$750.00 at the beginning of negotiations for acquis-
ition of the 1.3 acres of slough property, a part of
the original U.S. Fish Hatchery property. Mr. Serur
asked Counci I approval for payment for the property.
Alderman Froh said if the City acquires the propehty,
it should be kept for City use and not leased to
Aquarena, as planned. He suggested that Aquarena be
guaranteed access through the property. Mr. Froh said
if the City kept the property, the people could use it,
and he felt it should not be tied to anyone group.
The Mayor asked why the City should spend $7500 fo~ the
property. He stated he felt Aquarena's request for a
99-year lease for the purchase price of $7500 was Na
little steepN. Mr. Froh said that in view of the
controversy over water rights, he felt the City should
keep the property. Alderman Pool said if the City
could afford it, he would be in agreement with Mr. Froh.
Alderman Damon pointed out that what was needed at this
time was approval for payment for the tract. He moved
that the City purchase the 1.3 acres of slough tract
from General Services AdmJnistration at the assessed
price of $7500. Alderman Pool seconded the motion and
on rol I cal I, the following vote was recorded:

~YE: Damon, Froh, Pool, Tuttle
NAY: None

The Mayor declared the motion carried.

Decision on disposal of the property, by lease or sale,
was deferred for further consideration.

Alderman Pool, Acting Manager of Gary Airport, reported
that Bi I I Arendal I of Wimberley had contracted to paint
the hangar for $750, with the City furnishing the paint.
Renovation of the bui Iding, which was already underway,
could be accomplished forN$1500 or a little moreN.
Dr. Pool also reported fhat a new entry-way from State 21
could be effected with construction of 50-60 feet of
road and a drainage ditch. He said the State Highway
Department had agreed to cooperate on the project. Dr.
Pool said he and Alderman Damon had had a conference with
Dr. O.J. Baker, Direcfor of Gary Job Corps Training Center,
who had agreed that students in the maintenance classes
would assist with rehabil itation and renovation of the
hangar. Dr. Pool said the improvements at the Airport
should be accomplished in 30-45 days. The Mayor thanked
Dr. Pool and his committee for getting the project underway.

The Mayor brought before the Counci I the necessity of
official/y designating the new street into San Marcos,
an extension of RM 12, as East Hopkins Street. Alderman
Pool moved that the extension of RM 12, from the new San
Marcos bridge to its juncture with I 35 be officially
designated as NEast Hopkins StreetN. Alderman Damon sec-
onded the motion and on rol I cal I the fol lowing vote was

recorded:

AYE:
NAY:

Damon, Froh, Pool, Tuttle
None

;{-: '\ ~

I

I

I
