<br />regular meeting, december 13, 1965 <br /> <br />page three <br /> <br />-I <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor asked George Reed, Supervisor of the Uti lities <br />Department, to give a progress report on negotiations on <br />a contract to furnish water to Gary Job Corps Tra~~~ng <br />Center. The proposed contract provides for mutual fire- <br />fighting services; and that the final rate agreed upon <br />would be retroactive. Mr. Reed read aloud a letter <br />wr i tten October I, 1965 to J. H. Sharp ley, Manager, <br />Contract and Legal Services for Gary Job Corps T~aining <br />Center, in which City Manager B.R. Fuller set forth a <br />proposal. After discussion of the proposed terms of the <br />contract, Alderman Pool moved that the Mayor be authorized <br />to execute the proposed water contract with Gary as soon as <br />possible. Alderman Tuttle seconded the motion, and on roll <br />call, the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh,Pool, Tuttle <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Alderman Damon enquired whether a contract for garbage coll- <br />ection had been executed with Gary Job Corps Training Center. <br />The Mayor said it was still under negotiation. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The M~yor announced that the contract with Isom Hale for the <br />engineering work on the HHFA Planning and Survey Advance <br />for sewerage, water faci lities and street and bridge im- <br />provement studies had been signed, and Mr. Hale instructed <br />to proceed with the work. <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced the matter of asking for bids for a new <br />car for the City Manager. Alderman Froh suggested that a <br />new car be given to the Police Department, and a car from the <br />Department be rotated to the new City Manager. It was agreed <br />by common consent that requests for bids b~ sent out. <br /> <br />The Mayor called attention to the fact that the Counci I should <br />set a policy about holidays when a set holiday falls on Satur- <br />day or Sunday. He suggested that City employees automatically <br />be given Friday, when the holiday falls on Saturday, and <br />Monday, when the ho I i day fa II s on Sunday. I t was agreed by <br />common consent, to adopt this policy for 1965, and for the <br />future. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A petition signed by property-owners on Liveoak and Elm Streets, <br />requesting that the two short streets be paved, was brought <br />before the Counc i I. It is attached as a part of the Minutes. <br />Alderman Froh suggested the matter be tabled until the new <br />City Manager arrives. Alderman Pool enquired whether there <br />were money provided in the budget for the paving. The Mayor <br />stated that paving comes to a standstil I during the Winter <br />months. No action was taken. <br /> <br />The Mayor announced that .a panel discussion on the need for <br />a charter in San Marcos would be held at Carson's Restaurant <br />at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 16. Held under the sponsorship of the <br />League of Women Voters, members of the Council were issued <br />a special invitation. Dr. J.H.
