Carney, Chairman of of St. John's
Parish Advisory Board. He presented the reasons the church
wished to acquire the 3.62 acres of park land between St. John's
property and East Hopkins Street. Herbert Nix questioned Mr. Carney about
the possibi lity of "the Catholic Church going into business on
that property - the Catholic Church owns many businesses."
Mr. Carney assured him St. JohnJs had no such plans. Mr. Nix
stated that the people of San Marcos had acq~ired the park
property "the hard way".
