<br />I(} <br /> <br />regular meeting, may 9, 1966 <br /> <br />page SIX <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE <br />CITY MANAGER TO ACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS AND TO EXECUTE All INSTRUMENTS NECESSARY TO <br />EXTEND SOCIAL SECURITY COVERAGE FOR ALL FIREMEN OF <br />THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS PURSUANT TO AGREEMENT WITH <br />THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE FOR FEDERAL <br />OLD-AGE AND SURVIVORS INSURANCE BENEFITS UNDER THE <br />PROVISIONS OF APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL lAWS. <br />DIRECTING THE TREASURER TO MAKE SUCH ADDITIONAl'OR <br />SUPPLEMENTARY ASSESSMENTS, COLLECTIONS AND REPORTS <br />AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR FIREMEN <br />AND ORDERING THE AllOCATION AND SETTING ASIDE IN THE <br />REGULAR CITY DEPOSITORY IN THE FUND KNOWN AS "THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS SOCIAL SECURITY FUND", OF SUCH <br />ADDITIONAL MONEY FROM AVAilABLE SOURCES.AS MAY BE <br />NECESSARY TO PROVIDE SOCIAL SECURITY COVERAGE FOR <br />ALL FIREMEN <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />On rol I cal I, the fol lowing vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and <br />Adopted. <br /> <br />Alderman Whittenberg moved that the City bui Id a side- <br />walk along the old Nelson Bui Iding property on lBJ Drive, <br />for the benefit of pedestrian Col lege students. Alderman <br />Korff seconded the motion and on rol I cal I, the fol lowing <br />vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />"I <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion passed. <br /> <br />Alderman Froh asked the City Manager about the City's <br />contracts with Gary Training Center for garbage col 1- <br />ection and water. Mr. Wolff reported the City has a <br />satisfactory two-year contract for water. The garbage <br />collection agreement wi II expire June 30, 1966, and <br />Gary officials wi I I not seek to renew it. <br /> <br />In answer to the Mayor's questions, the City Manager <br />reported he had not received a reply from the rai Iroad <br />on the City's request for signal lights at the crossings. <br />Mr .Wo I ff said the new parking meters would be installed <br />by June 15. After consultation with the Fire Chief, it <br />was found that the fireplugs on the west and east sides <br />of the Square could be removed, but it was not recommended <br />that those on the north and south sides be taken out. <br />The Mayor authorized the City.Manager to proceed with re- <br />moval of the fireplugs on the east and west sides of the <br />Square. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />There was brief discussion on the need for equal ization <br />of taxes, and the appointment of an Equalization Board. <br />Alderman Korff suggested the Counci I sit as a Board of <br />Equalization. No action was taken. <br /> <br />The meeting adjourned at 11:00 p.m. <br />
