I(} regular meeting, may 9, 1966 page SIX AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACT ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS AND TO EXECUTE All INSTRUMENTS NECESSARY TO EXTEND SOCIAL SECURITY COVERAGE FOR ALL FIREMEN OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS PURSUANT TO AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE FOR FEDERAL OLD-AGE AND SURVIVORS INSURANCE BENEFITS UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL lAWS. DIRECTING THE TREASURER TO MAKE SUCH ADDITIONAl'OR SUPPLEMENTARY ASSESSMENTS, COLLECTIONS AND REPORTS AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR FIREMEN AND ORDERING THE AllOCATION AND SETTING ASIDE IN THE REGULAR CITY DEPOSITORY IN THE FUND KNOWN AS "THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS SOCIAL SECURITY FUND", OF SUCH ADDITIONAL MONEY FROM AVAilABLE SOURCES.AS MAY BE NECESSARY TO PROVIDE SOCIAL SECURITY COVERAGE FOR ALL FIREMEN I On rol I cal I, the fol lowing vote was recorded: AYE: Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg NAY: None The Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted. Alderman Whittenberg moved that the City bui Id a side- walk along the old Nelson Bui Iding property on lBJ Drive, for the benefit of pedestrian Col lege students. Alderman Korff seconded the motion and on rol I cal I, the fol lowing vote was recorded: AYE: NAY: Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg None "I The Mayor declared the motion passed. Alderman Froh asked the City Manager about the City's contracts with Gary Training Center for garbage col 1- ection and water. Mr. Wolff reported the City has a satisfactory two-year contract for water. The garbage collection agreement wi II expire June 30, 1966, and Gary officials wi I I not seek to renew it. In answer to the Mayor's questions, the City Manager reported he had not received a reply from the rai Iroad on the City's request for signal lights at the crossings. Mr .Wo I ff said the new parking meters would be installed by June 15. After consultation with the Fire Chief, it was found that the fireplugs on the west and east sides of the Square could be removed, but it was not recommended that those on the north and south sides be taken out. The Mayor authorized the City.Manager to proceed with re- moval of the fireplugs on the east and west sides of the Square. I There was brief discussion on the need for equal ization of taxes, and the appointment of an Equalization Board. Alderman Korff suggested the Counci I sit as a Board of Equalization. No action was taken. The meeting adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
