<br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
<br />Mr. Serur stated that on Saturday, May 14, he had received a
<br />letter from J.B. Perry of Lufkin renewing his offer to buy
<br />3.62 acres of park I and for $50,000, the offer be i ng good unt i I
<br />midnight, Tuesday, May 17. On Monday, Mr. Serur said he asked
<br />the City Manager to answer the letter, saying the Counci I would
<br />probab I y dec ide t.o reta i nthe 3.62 acr'es as park land. The Mayor
<br />said he had the two letters in question there for anyone who cared
<br />to see them. Mr. Serur said a local newsstory had stated that
<br />Mr. Perry "had not been given the cou~tasy of a replyn, and he
<br />wished to set the record' straight. Today~s me~ting, the Mayor
<br />said, had been called to make a final decision on d.j,sposition
<br />of the park acreage. The Mayor said that on beh~lf of the many
<br />peop I e who had ca II ed him about the matter, he woul d recommend
<br />that the Counci I vote to retain the land. Mr. Serur referred to
<br />a tabled motion that the 3.62 acres be offered to the highest
<br />bidder. Alderman Pool moved that the motion to sel I to the
<br />highest bidder be placed on the table. Alder~an Korff seconded
<br />the motion. Mrs. Edra P. Allbright was recognized by the Mayor.
<br />She, said she was spokesman for a Park Board appointed in 1948,
<br />which was sti II in existence, only meeting when a need arose.
<br />Qisplpying a Minute Book of the Park Board, Mrs. Allbright said
<br />.t~at Mr, and Mrs. Monk had sol~ the land to the City, refusing
