"The Counci I is morally <br />obligated to keep this park land and to beautify it", <br />Mrs. Allbright said. Tony Stapp, President of the <br />Junior Chamber of Commerce, presented a Resolution <br />passed by the Board of Directors that day, urging the <br />Council to keep the land. The Resolution, read aloud I <br />by the Mayor, is made a part of the Minutes. The <br />Mayor read aloud a letter from Fr. Trevino, pastor <br />of St. John's Church, see attached. Alderman Pool, <br />referring to the Jaycee Resolution, said; flMr. Stapp, <br />doesn't this re2present a 1800 turn for the Jaycees <br />from last week?" Mr. Stapp answered:"We were mis- <br />quoted in the newspaper. We said ;'If the land is <br />to be so I d, we th i nk it shou J d be to the highest bidder "'. <br />Rodgers Storey, recognized by the Mayor, said; "I recom- <br />mend that if the City does retain the land, the old City <br />barn be moved". The Mayor said it was planned to move it. <br />Alderman Wh~tfenberg moved that the park land revert to <br />its prior use. There being a motion already before the <br />Counc i I (to se II the I and to the highest bidder), the <br />question was called for and the following vote recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY; <br /> <br />None <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion to sel I the property to <br />the highest bidder unanimously defeated. <br /> <br />A I derman Wh i ttenberg moved that the Counc ii's act i on <br />abandoning the 3.62 acres of park land be declared <br />nljll and void. Alderma.n Damon seconded the motion. <br />The question being called for, the fol lowing vote <br />was recorded: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Pool, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion ~arried. <br /> <br /> <br />1; ,<.. <br />
