Allbritton, Gene Rourke, Jim Carney, <br />Bruce Smith, Carolyn Chandler, Ray Evans <br /> <br />The Mayor opened the Public Hearing on the Zoning Ordinance, <br />as published, at 7:00 p.m. No one appeared for the Hearing. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />At 7:30 p.m., the Mayor cal led the regular meeting to order. <br />The Rev, Leroy Russe II, pastor of First Method i st Church, <br />gave the Invocation. <br /> <br />The Minutes of. the meeti ngs of May 3, May 19 & May 23, 1966 <br />were approved as presented, on motion of Alderman Froh and <br />second of Alderman Poo I, <br /> <br />Miss Dessie Thomas was recognized by the Mayor. She thanked <br />the Mayor and Counci I for attending the State Highway Com- <br />mission meeting in Austin in regard to Bccessroads on 1-35. <br />She reported that thirty-one citizens of San Marcos had at- <br />tended, and that the delegation Was p~omi8ed that a represent- <br />ative of the Highway Depa~tment would review the problem of <br />one-way and two-way traffic on the access roads, with the <br />objective of bringing about a solution. Miss Thomas requested <br />the Counci I to appoint a committee to work with the Highway <br />Department representatives on the traffic problem. The Mayor <br />appointed Miss Dessie Thomas, J..C. Allbritton and Kenneth <br />Weatherford to the committee, with common consent of the Counci I. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />R.H. Meeks of Houston appeared before the CounciJ on behalf of <br />his father-in-law, H.A. Nelson.. He discussed plans of the <br />Nelson Family to develop their business property on L.B.J. Drive <br />and Edward Gary Street. He sa i d he had had an arch i tect in <br />San Marcos the past two days, working on plans for a shopping <br />center at that location. He said he had wjrked ~ith the City <br />Manager on arrangements for clearing the old buildings off <br />the Edward Gary property, as the first phase of the Nelson pro- <br />ject.. Work on phase One should get underway within 60-90 days. <br />Phase Two would be the old bui Iding on the corner of LSJ Drive. <br />Mr. Meeks sa i d i. t had not been determ i ned yet whether any part <br />of the oldbu.i Iding could be salvaged. If it could not, <br />the old building would also be torn down. He said the Nelson <br />Fami Iy would cooperate in every way with the Urban Renewal Pro- <br />ject, and would conform to the City's bui lding codes. MI". Meeks <br /> <br />'~.' <br />
