Carson, Jim Brown <br /> <br />The Mayor cal led the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Mr. Serur asked Mrs. Ruth Manske to come forward to receive <br />a Distinguished Service Award as 1966 Chairman fOr Un.ited <br />Nations Day in San Marcos. The Mayor thanked Mrs. Manske for <br />her many years of service in planning educational programs <br />on the United Nations in San Marcos. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Minutes of the October 10, 1966 meet i ng were approved as <br />presented, on motion of Alderman Damon, and second of Alderman Korff. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />David Dai ley and J.O. Paine appeared before the Counci I to discuss <br />the Firemen's Pension Fund. Mr. Dai ley explained that Volunteer <br />Firemen pay. $5 a year dues into the Pension Fund. At age 55, on <br />completion of 20 years service, he is entitl~d to a maximum pension <br />of $25 a month. Regular firemen are under a different schedule, <br />with a maximum pension of $100 a month. The Fund is subsidized by <br />the State, with payments fluctuating ona sliding scale according <br />to the number participating. Volunteer Firemen received $7.80 <br />the past month. The spokesmen for the Volunteer Firemen requested <br />that the City supplement the peniion payments, to provide maximum <br />payments to the regular firemen, the thr';e firemen's.'.widows who <br />participate, and the volunteer firemen who qualify: . A copy of <br />the current I ist of pensioners and payments is attached as a part <br />of the Minutes. Alderman Pool moved that the City cooperate to <br />the ful lest extent to supplement the diff~rence in payments from <br />the Firemen's Pension. Fund. Alderma~ Damon seconded the motion. <br />The Mayor expressed his approval of paying the supplement. Alder- <br />man Korff asked for a more specific control: "It could be that <br />the City would have no money - is this on a year to year basis, or <br />a perpetual basis?" The City Manager ~aidthe ~ity is on a very <br />tight budget, with no contingency fund. The supplement was esti- <br />mated at about $4,000. "I want the firemen to have everything <br />that's coming to them", .Mr. Wolff said, "but it's going to be <br />difficult to find the money inthis budget". Mr. Froh said per- <br />haps it might be wise to wai~ until February to start the supple- <br />ment. Mr. Dai ley said he would like to see the regular firemen, <br />and the widows, get the maximum payments, as a start. The question <br />
