regular meeting, january 9,1967

page five

The Mayor said the Business and Professional Women's
Club had requested the Council postpone the January 23
meeting, since it would conflict with the club's annual
awards dinner. On motion of Alderman Damon, and by
common consent of the Counci I, the meeting was postponed
to January 30.

I

Alderman Whittenberg introduced the subject of the finan-
cial status of the City, with special reference to the
number of warrants issued, and requested a ful I financial
report for the next meeting.

The Mayor referred to the Monthly Reports, and commended
Chief of Police Dial and his men "for a job wel I done".

Alderman Froh enquired about the status of the Canyon Dam
park site offered the City of San Marcos by the U.S. Corps
of Engineers. Alderman Pool suggested that the City Manager
contact the Corps of Engineers about the Potters Creek site
at Canyon Dam, and signify to them that the City is sti I I
interested in it.

I

Alderman Whittenberg enquired who authorized work recently
done on the Fire Station. The City Manager said he pre-
sumed he had that authority. Mr. Whittenberg said he had
been told that work was done on the Fire Station, and when
it was completed, the man hired to do the job had been told
to do simi lar work on the other stations. He had ordered
materials for the job, and then was told he couldn't do the
work. The City Manager said Fire Chief Albert Tombaugh had
requested a plug for remote switch at Fire Station No.3,
and he had felt the request was justified. Mr. Whittenberg
suggested Mr. Wolff check on the job.

Alderman Damon asked J.T. Brown, Urban Renewal Director,
when Marmon, Mok & Green wouJd present the final draft of
the planf for the next project. Mr. Brown said a delay
had been caused by the completion of the flood control
survey of the Corps of Engineers, ~hich in~olves Purgat~ry
Creek. He said he and Mr. Wolff were going to Ft. Worth
Jan. I I, and hoped to have a conference with the Corps of
Engineers. He said Mr. Green, of Marmon, Mok & Green, had
promised him that the plan would be ready for submission to
the Council within ten days after the conference with the
Engineers. Mr. Brown said if the Corps of Engineers would
come in and do the work on Purgatory, .it wou I d save money,
since that project had already been funded. It would cause
a delay, however.

I,

The City Manager said he had hoped that the Gi Icrease
property house, severely damaged by fire, would not be need-
ed as a faci lity for the Girl Scouts, but he had been inform-
ed that it was badly needed. This would require modifications
to the building, costing between $2,GGG and $3,000. Alderman
Froh suggested that estimates on the cost be presented at the
next meeting. Alderman Damon suggested that Aldermen Froh and
Pool assist the City Manager in this matter.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
