<br />special meeting <br /> <br />january 23, 1967 <br /> <br />page two <br /> <br />The City Secretary read aloud the "Notice of Intention". <br />The matter ,was th6roughly discussed. Alderman Damon <br />moved that the notice be published. Alderman Korff <br />seconded the motion and on roll call, the following <br />vote was recorded; <br /> <br />AYE; Damon, Froh, Korff <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the motion carried. and signed the <br />notice for the Counci I. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />J.E. Younger, jr., Chair~pn of the Planning & Zoning <br />Commission, Came before the Counci I to protest the <br />width of Guadalupe Street on the curve that leads to <br />Liveoak. The street, curb and gutter work is under <br />contract by the Urban Renewa I Agency, in the f i na I <br />stages of comp leti on of the Chautauqua Hi II Project <br />for expansion of Southwest Texas State Col lege. Mr. <br />Younger said he had measured the street and it ;s only <br />26 feet wide. With the 12-story dormitory being bui It <br />at that curve, he said, traffic would increase even <br />more, "You (the Counci I) oughfto st6~t it right now!" <br />Mr. YOUhger said. The City Manager said the cost of <br />widening the street would be excessive, because of the <br />rock. Mr. Dannel ley, an employee of the Urban Renewal <br />Agency, 'stated a pub lie heari I:1g had been he I d on the <br />plan, andn no protest had been made at the time. It <br />was pointed ~ut on the maps accompanying the plan that <br />a60-ft. thoroughfare is sc~eduled to skirt the campus, <br />relieving traffic on the narrow streets. The thorough- <br />fare is planned as an extension ,of Olmos Drive. There <br />Was a thorough discussion on the matter. The Mayor <br />asked the City Manager to get an estimate on the cost <br />of widening Guadalupe Street, and/who would bear the <br /> <br />expense. ascertain <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor's appointment of Dr. Bi Ily J.
